Analysts remain positive on Sembcorp Industries despite difficult first half


RHB analyst Leng Seng Choon sees underlying strength in Sembcorp Industries (SCI) due to potential growth drivers in its energy business. He has maintained his &ldquo buy&rdquo call on the counter and maintained his target price at $2.11 at a 19% upside. 


With an experienced new CEO Wong Kim Win in charge of SCI, CGS-CIMB&rsquo s Lim sees the counter taking time to re-rate. The former CEO of SP group with two decades of experience in the energy sector, Wong&rsquo s focus now, she says, is to bring about the de-merger of SCI from Sembcorp Marine. He believes that SCI can capitalise on Singapore&rsquo s strategic geography and that the group is well-positioned in its operating sectors.

Lim has maintained her &ldquo add&rdquo call on SCI with a $2.27 target price while saying that no major strategic review is required for now. Core earnings per share (EPS) is expected to grow 68.9% and 18.5% y-o-y respectively in 2021 and 2022

 Alert Admin 		I see no reason why the share price cannot hit $2 on CE (Cum entitlement).

The deficit of 20+ cents now is due to the risk of Semb marine shareholders voting against the demerger.

After approval obtained during EGM, it will rocket to $2 no doubt.

The risk of not able to obtain shareholders approval is keeping the share price below $2. So it looks like almost certain the demerger is going to be approved.

But of course there are ppl who do not want to take the risk especially  those who bought at $1.40+ onwards, they may want to take profit. So need to digest these profit takers and hopefully nearer to the voting, share price will rise to $1.90+ then jump above $2 when approval is obtained.

If US market is positive in the next 2 days, SCI might test 190 and above

Both kongsis shd be able to move into green territory thereafter, as scm looks like good chance of bagging a huge $4.5Bil(?) project next year, being selected as the preferred choice preliminarily. Think for scm to win the project, likely need Temasek' s strong support to back it to give client confidence. SCI can' t do that, that' s why good strategy to demerge, and replace sci with Temasek' s strong hand.
Currently sci seems to be pulled down by shorties, would be good to nib if can afford, but at such price, not easy lah. Think that' s y few buyers, but more shorties. Just opinion.laugh

SINGAPORE (THE BUSINESS TIMES) - Sembcorp Industries took a major hit in the first half as its earnings tumbled amid the pandemic with worse to come, it warned on Friday (July 17).

It recorded a net loss of $131 million for the six months to June 30 compared with a $191 million net profit in the same period last year.

The firm also indicated that more red ink is on the way.
