Contribute to GDP. Who stands to gain when GDP is high? Whose bonus goes up? Same for casinos. Do the ordinary citizens gain? Who gains?

A lot of reliefs given to SIA. Not just 75% wages credits.
S$350 million Enhanced Aviation Support Package, which includes rebates on landing and parking charge and rental relief for airlines, ground handlers and cargo agents. The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) will allow Singapore carriers and the airport operator to partially or fully defer payment of certain fees due to the authority between April 1 this year and March 31 next year, to help ease their cash flow. |

👍 the slide is pretty clear on the burn rate. With reduction in management salary and pay cut, early retirement, the non fuel operating expense will reduce further.

No problem... The 900mil per mth was prediction in march-20 at start of CB. Analyst estimated this number based on normal operating expense, apparently during these period, SIA did cut down expense by 40% from 1B per mth to ~600mil per mth.

Read this.
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-08-02/when-it-comes-to-covid-vaccines-rich-nations-are-first-in-line?srnd=premium-asia They say on 1 bil shots available by early 2022. We have 7 bil ppl in the world. And there are studies that say that airline won't operate normally until 2024. Sia load factor need to be ard 70% to be making profit. The lesser business traveller the higher the load factor have to be to make profit. I used to work in SIA more then 13 years back. I was once told if the first class and business class all full, a flight will make money even if there is no economy passengers. Alot of company not allowing staff to travel right now due to covid19. The world won't be the same again in the next few years. After company get used to working remotely and cutting travel.

@vicloo, no leh I don' t think that' s the correct mathematics.  My reading is that they " burn" say $1B a month so the total burn for the quarter is $3B of cash.  Of this $3B, the operating loss takes up $1.1B and the rest $1.9B goes towards fixed monthly cash outflow for monthly loans installment repayments, salaries and many other monthly commitment expenses especially for alumimium aeroplanes  mortgage repayments ....  @laksaman57, thanks for clarifying burn rate for a new company .... do you think the analysts who wrote that " the cash burn rate of SIA is between & 0.9B to $1B per month mean it the same way like this ? I must admit I am no accountant and I am not sure actually whether this is the correct mathematical interpretation of the " monthly" cash burn rate vis-a-vis the " quarterly" operating loss just recently reported.

Just wonder also ...
When they start flying again, a lot of us actually are holding flight credits, means we will be using the flights but not paying anything. Revenue is last quarter?s revenue. I have these credits. My brother has them. Etc etc. Other airlines are also facing the same. Lots of flight credits and free rebookings. The revenue stream will not be as much as the actual traffic that is picking up. So if they are looking at 50% recovery in pax traffic next year, revenue recovery will not be as much. Furthermore, there are stash of miles which I think is liability. I?ll use these first too (a lot of ppl world to) before we start paying with cash again. And I would want to use these fast because they are going for devaluation in these bad times. Really bleak ... :( |
