ST Engineering' s defensive business model positive for the counter RHB Group Research analyst Shekhar Jaiswal has kept " buy" on Singapore Technologies Engineering (ST Engineering) with a target price of $4.85, as he deems the group as preparing for its " next leg of growth" . To Jaiswal, the group' s defensive business model has enabled it to deliver " credible earnings" in the FY2020 even though the Covid-19 pandemic has delayed the achievement of its growth targets that were set in 2018. To this end, ST Engineering has identified new 2026 targets for its reorganised business. The group has indicated that it intends to grow its annual revenue at two to three times the global GDP growth, to over $11 billion by 2026. " Assuming it manages to sustain its current and pre-pandemic net margin of 7.3%, it would imply a profit of $800 million in 2026 and a 2023-2026 compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.6%," writes Jaiswal in a Nov 26 report. " If it delivers the planned revenue and profit growth, ST Engineering could sustain our forecasted profit CAGR of 8% beyond 2023 as well," he adds. In addition, ST Engineering has estimated that domestic travel will recover to the levels seen in 2019 by 2013. International travel, as well as the global aircraft fleet are also expected to recover to pre-Covid-19 levels by 2024. " To leverage on the longer-term growth in aircraft fleet, ST Engineering is investing in passenger to freighter (P2F) conversion business. It has delivered five narrowbody P2F since 2020 and 12 medium widebody P2F since 2018," says Jaiswal. " It has more than 60 and 80 aircraft of each type on order for deliveries. ST Engineering will double its annual P2F conversion capacity to 30 by 2022 and increase it to 60 by 2026. It expects the P2F business to generate SGD700m of annual revenue by 2026" . There are also opportunities for the counter in smart city solutions, notes the analyst, as the group sees the relevant smart city market to grow at a CAGR of 8% to reach US$500 billion ($685.37 billion) in 2026. " Growth will be driven by demand for urbanisation, digitalisation, and sustainability. Its announced acquisition of Transcore for US$2.68 billion, which is expected to be completed by 1QFY2022, will help it achieve the targeted 2026 smart city revenue of $3.5 billion, from current revenue of $1.7 billion," says Jaiswal. " ST Engineering has identified international defence business as growth vector with an addressable market of US$5 billion over [the] next five years. This growth will be driven by adoption of digital technologies in military and legacy platforms being upgraded," he adds. Shares in ST Engineering closed 1 cent lower or 0.26% down at $3.84 on Nov 29.   |

Not too bad.  At least now some late, slow to response buyers are coming in.    So I think when these people come in, it could mean time to off load some to them.

ST Engineering bags international smart city projects, defence contract
SINGAPORE Technologies Engineering (ST Engineering) ST Engineering: S63 +1.55% on Monday (Nov 15) said it has secured a smart city project in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan for S$445 million.

Its smart mobility business, as part of a consortium with Hyundai Rotem, will be awarded a contract by the Kaohsiung City Mass Rapid Transit Bureau, to provide smart metro solutions, trains and a power supply system for the Kaohsiung MRT Red Line Extension, over a 7-year period.

The extension line is 13 km long and consists of 6 elevated stations with an option for 2 additional stations.

Under the partnership, ST Engineering will provide the communications and SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) systems, automatic fare collection system, platform screen doors, and signalling system.

The project adds to the group' s record of over 200 smart metro projects in more than 50 cities worldwide.

Additionally, the engineering group' s smart utilities and infrastructure business is also participating in a city-wide public smart street light control project in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

ST Engineering will serve as a technology partner to the Smart Luz consortium in the city' s Public Lighting public-private partnership project. Smart Luz was awarded the project to operate, maintain, expand and modernise the city' s public lighting infrastructure for a period of 20 years.

Work for the public lighting project will start in the fourth quarter of 2021, for a period of 2 years, with a 10-year operation and maintenance portion that can be extended for another 8 years.

Chew Men Leong, president of urban solutions at ST Engineering, noted that the projects provide " further validation of the unique strengths, quality and reliability" of the group' s smart city solutions.

" Importantly, our solutions are helping cities pave their way to a more connected, resilient and sustainable future," he said.

Separately, ST Engineering also said its marine business has secured a contract to construct Falaj 3-class offshore patrol vessels for the UAE Navy.

The group was awarded a sub-contract by Abu Dhabi Ship Building for the supply of design, platform equipment and technical assistance for the construction of 4 of such vessels.

The contract covers the basic, detail design and production design of the vessels, while technical assistance will be provided during the construction of the first of class vessel.

ST Engineering has won a sub-contract by Abu Dhabi Ship Building PJSC (ADSB) for the supply of design, platform equipment and technical assistance for the construction of four Falaj 3-class Offshore Patrol Vessels.
These vessels will be constructed in ADSB for the UAE Navy.  he contract, whose value wasn&rsquo t disclosed, covers the basic, detail design and production design of the vessels. Technical assistance will be provided during the construction of the first of class vessel.
The Falaj-3 class is a highly versatile and reliable offshore patrol vessel, which is based on the Fearless class used by the Singapore.   &ldquo We are confident that our past experience in the design and construction of such class of vessels will position us and ADSB well to meet the challenges,&rdquo said Ng Sing Chan, President, Marine at ST Engineering.    Separately, ST Engineering announced that it has won new smart city-related contracts in Taiwan&rsquo s Kaohsiung and Brazil&rsquo s Rio de Janeiro.    With these two new contracts, ST Engineering has built up a track record of delivering more than 700 smart city related contracts in 130 cities.   &ldquo Securing these landmark projects provides further validation of the unique strengths, quality and reliability of our Smart City solutions, and our credentials as a leading global Smart City participant,&rdquo says Chew Men Leong, president of urban solutions at ST Engineering.    The company&rsquo s contract in Kaohsiung is part of a $445 million MRT project won by a consortium including Hyundai&rsquo s Rotem.     Under terms of the project, ST Engineering will be responsible for providing the communications systems, automatic fare collection system, platform screen doors, and signalling system.
The contract in Rio de Janeiro, on the other hand, is part of the world&rsquo s largest single deployments of a city-wide public smart street light control project.   Specifically, ST Engineering will deploy its Telematics Wireless T-Light Galaxy Smart Street Lighting solution with AGIL IoT platform to connect more than 300,000 LED street lights across the city.    Similar to the patrol vessel contract, the value of these two other contracts are not disclosed.   Last week, ST Engineering announced it secured more than $1.82 billion worth of contracts in 3Q21, bringing its total order book at $18.2 billion as of end September.
