Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, City Developments and apletree Pan Asia Commercial Trust are three stocks deemed as " unappreciated" STI laggards with the best chance to narrow the discount to their respective P/E or P/B and catch up amid the ongoing rally, says the UOB Kay Hian research team led by Jonathan Koh.
In his Sept 1 note, Koh notes that YZJ 2026 P/E of 9.5x is the lowest among the 30 STI components and the ship builder has the potential to re-rate towards peers average FY2028 P/E of 11.3x. |

I think you're right !! This final quadrant seems to hold so well, being absorbed at every upper level.
I've held back profit taking, let's test our luck next few weeks if it holds beyond $5 .... Happy investing and a great weekend to all.

UK-based Union Maritime has doubled its large gas carrier newbuild programme with a pair of 88,000 cu m VLACs at China?s Yangzijiang Shipbuilding.
The Laurent Cadji-led owner has emerged as the company behind two gas carrier newbuilds at Jingjiang New Yangzi Shipbuilding, with deliveries scheduled for 2029 and 2030. Union Maritime?s fleet list identifies the ships as 55,000 dwt VLGCs under hull numbers 1787 and 1788. Yangzijiang?s first-half results provide the other piece of the puzzle. The Singapore-listed shipbuilder said it secured just two gas carrier orders during the first six months of 2026, both for 88,000 cbm VLACs, taking its orderbook for the type to six ships. No price has been disclosed. The deal doubles Union Maritime?s gas carrier orderbook after the company was linked earlier this summer to two 90,000 cu m VLGC/VLAC newbuilds at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries. Splash reported in July that the South Korean pair, due in 2029, were costing around $234m in total. Union Maritime?s own website now lists 69 newbuildings alongside an operating fleet of 89 tankers, 15 bulkers and five offshore vessels. Shipping sources calculate that 61 of the 69 ships on order are being built in China. Yangzijiang is already a significant yard partner for Union Maritime. New Yangzi delivered the 114,000 dwt SPA, a wind-assisted LNG dual-fuel tanker, to the UK owner in January. https://splash247.com/union-maritime-steps-up-gas-carrier-push-with-yangzijiang-pair/ |

Yangzijiang Shipbuilding inspires higher target prices on impressive margin growth Analysts have upgraded their target prices for Yangzijiang Shipbuilding after the China-based but Singapore-listed shipbuilder reported record earnings for its most recent 1HFY2026, which featured margins that beat expectations. Ren Letian, the company&rsquo s executive chairman and CEO, calls the 1HFY2026 results a &ldquo testament to our prudent cost management and sophisticated shipbuilding capabilities&rdquo . He notes that order-win momentum remains healthy as Yangzijiang secured US$1.96 billion ($2.51 billion) in new orders for the first seven months of the year, with the company&rsquo s 2029 delivery slots nearly full. &ldquo We continue to progress with negotiations for the remainder of the year and open up 2030 delivery slots steadily,&rdquo says Ren. The company&rsquo s orderbook as at June 30 stood at US$22.4 billion, providing revenue visibility to FY2029. Reiterating her &ldquo buy&rdquo rating, DBS&rsquo s Ho Pei Hwa raised her valuation to $5.60 in her Aug 11 report from the previous $4.55. Similarly, CGS International&rsquo s Lim Siew Khee and Meghana Kande reinforced their &ldquo add&rdquo rating with a higher target of $5.75 compared to $5.10 previously in their Aug 7 report. For 1HFY2026 ended June 30, YZJ Shipbuilding reported a 28.4% y-o-y rise in net profit to a record RMB5.37 ($1.02) billion, on 36.2% y-o-y higher revenue of RMB17.5 billion. Gross profit grew 42.8% y-o-y to a record RMB6.35 billion, while gross margin expanded 170 basis points to 36.2%. 1H performance a strong beat Describing YZJ Shipbuilding&rsquo s performance as a &ldquo strong&rdquo beat in her Aug 7 note, DBS&rsquo s Ho notes that core net profit rose 23% y-o-y to RMB5.2 billion, beating expectations by 12% on &ldquo stronger than expected&rdquo revenue of RMB17.5 billion. Margin for shipbuilding rose by 190 basis points to 37.1%, mainly attributable to the progressive construction of vessels secured at higher contract prices, particularly 24,000 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) ultra-large liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel containerships and 100,000 cubic-metre very large ethane carriers (VLECs). Issuing a follow-up report on Aug 11, Ho elaborates on the investment case for YZJ Shipbuilding. Firstly, she believes the company is poised to ride the clean energy wave and notes that the firm has at least a 5% cost advantage relative to peers from China and Korea. This provides YZJ Shipbuilding with a &ldquo wide&rdquo economic moat. The business has also successfully penetrated the LNG carrier market and is pivoting towards less carbon-intensive vessels such as dual-fuel container ships and gas carriers, which make up more than 80% of its orderbook. To Ho, the improving sustainability-related revenue could attract more investment interest from ESG funds. Ho notes that the LNG carrier market could be a &ldquo significant&rdquo growth opportunity for YZJ Shipbuilding and alludes to less competition as the segment has high technical barriers to entry. She believes the market has yet to &ldquo fully&rdquo appreciate the potential for earnings growth from its record-high order backlog as well as yard expansion. With the orders on hand, Ho expects the company&rsquo s earnings to grow at a CAGR of around 10% in the next two years. This will be supported by revenue growth and &ldquo steady&rdquo margins from &ldquo higher&rdquo value containership orders. &lsquo Compelling&rsquo growth and yield story Believing that YZJ Shipbuilding offers a &ldquo compelling&rdquo growth plus yield story over the next two years, Ho raises her valuation of the stock to $5.60, based on 2.6 times forecast FY2027 P/B and 10 times P/E, in line with peers&rsquo average. She says the target is justified due to the firm&rsquo s &ldquo consistently high&rdquo ROE of more than 25% and &ldquo lucrative&rdquo 6%&ndash 7% dividend yield. She expects earnings to peak in 2027 or beyond. Sharing similar optimism with DBS&rsquo s Ho are CGSI&rsquo s Lim and Kande, who raise their FY2026&ndash FY2028 core net profit estimate for YZJ Shipbuilding by 3%&ndash 8%. They forecast FY2026/2027/2028 shipbuilding gross margin at 37%/35%/33%. With more vessels scheduled for delivery in the second half of the year compared to the first, the CGSI analysts expect an even stronger performance in 2HFY2026. However, they foresee a slight tapering from late FY2027 onwards due to lower margins for the new Hongyuan yard during its ramp-up phase versus YZJ&rsquo s legacy yards and rising equipment prices, especially for engines which are up to 20% more expensive compared to 2024. Lim and Kande also note the management&rsquo s belief that they can negotiate higher prices due to rising enquiries and an appreciating renminbi. They keep their order-win forecast at US$3.5 billion for the year, compared to the company&rsquo s US$4.5 billion target. Reiterating their &ldquo add&rdquo call on the back of YZJ&rsquo s earnings visibility, Lim and Kande value the counter at $5.75, based on 11 times forecasted FY2027 P/E. Key rerating catalysts include stronger-than-expected order replenishment, while downside risks include stronger renminbi appreciation and higher equipment costs impacting margins. |

YZJ Shipbuilding 1H2026 results are clearly net positive and stronger than expected. Key numbers:
The most important point isn' t just the 28% profit growth.  Margins are getting stronger while the company is executing a very large orderbook.  That gives good earnings visibility into 2027& ndash 2029. Also, recent market commentary notes that YZJ is trading around  8.9x trailing earnings, despite its strong margins and earnings growth.    |

This is the AI report after analysis on this share and short datas and previous price movements.  Very interesting.
  Short sellers do not just look at a stock' s chart they look at retail order books{C} and the psychological cost basis{C} of the general public.{C}
{C}
1. The SGD 4.70 Trap Has No " Panic Margin" {C}
If institutional bears aggressively short Yangzijiang Shipbuilding (SGX: BS6) at SGD 4.70 to force it down to SGD 3.90, they face a massive structural wall. Because brokerages just slapped shiny new SGD 5.50 to SGD 5.75 target prices{C} on the stock, retail investors will view any drop toward SGD 4.00 as an absolute bargain. Instead of panic selling, the public will " buy the dip." Short sellers cannot easily cover their positions if buyers are aggressively scooping up shares underneath them.{C}
{C}
2. Pushing Up to SGD 5.30&ndash 5.50 Creates the " Exit Liquidity" They Need{C}
To successfully short a large-cap stock, institutions need a massive wave of buyers to absorb their sell orders without tanking the price instantly. They get this by letting the stock run up toward the target price.{C}
How the Shortists Will Play It This Time{C}
Because Yangzijiang' s actual earnings fundamentals are genuinely strong, short sellers cannot simply invent bad news. They must use time and exhaustion{C} to their advantage. Here is their highly likely playbook for the remaining half of 2026:{C}
For info only.
