Singapore sets liquid cooling standard for tropical data centres

Singapore has issued a technical standard for liquid-cooled data centres, as operators prepare for the higher power density and heat generated by artificial intelligence (AI) computing.


The Singapore Standard (SS) 726:2026 sets out how data centre operators should design, commission and run liquid-cooling systems in tropical conditions. The Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) and Enterprise Singapore developed it through the Singapore Standards Council, with input from operators, technology providers, consultants, and researchers.

Most data centres in Singapore use air cooling. However, servers running AI applications can consume up to 50 times the power of conventional racks used for general-purpose computing. Liquid cooling can reduce cooling-related energy consumption by more than 30% compared with conventional air-cooling systems, according to industry estimates cited by IMDA and EnterpriseSG...........

 Alert Admin 		At the end of the day, it is disappointing that, based on this now clearer guidance as to when we will see the turnaround benefits, it is forecast to happen later than what one might have wanted.

But compared to how the other AI plays are valued, I think the share price represents a great opportunity if you think the company will deliver what they are suggesting. In fact the doubt about this is what is keeping the share price down creating the big potential upside. There are AI companies that have already started delivering but where the share price has already left the station, but this one is still yet to turn the engine on. The risk/reward propostions are different..

I think what was published was open to interpretation, and whilst what they announced now is not inconsistent with what they published then, you might be forgiven for thnking the positive effects would have been seen by now. In contrast I think at the AGM what management said then made it clearer that this was a FY27 story I see what they said then as pushing back the time needed to see the fruits growing compared to at the FY results.
