SIA Engineering Q1 net profit down 6.1% at S$40.3 million [SINGAPORE] Aircraft maintenance provider SIA Engineering Company : S59 -0.61% on Thursday (Jul 23) reported a net profit of S$40.3 million for the first quarter ended Jun 30, down 6.1 per cent from a year ago. The group&rsquo s revenue for Q1 FY2027, at S$327.6 million, was 8.6 per cent lower year-on-year due to lower revenue from materials, with a commensurate reduction in the cost of materials. Excluding materials, however, revenue was up 4.2 per cent year-on-year, the group said in a business update. Group expenditure declined 11 per cent to S$314.4 million due to lower material and repair costs. Consequently, the group recorded an operating profit of S$13.2 million, an improvement of S$8.1 million from a year ago. Earnings per share stood at S$0.036, down from S$0.0384 for the same period in FY2026. Share of profits from associated and joint venture companies for the quarter was S$31.0 million, down 18 per cent from a year ago. Share of profits from the group&rsquo s engine and component segment fell by S$7 million, or 19.2 per cent, due to investment costs incurred for capacity and capability expansion. However, this amount was partially offset by higher engine shipments. Share of profits from the group&rsquo s airframe and line maintenance segment was S$200,000 or 14.3 per cent higher due to growth in flight handling volume. The group recorded 2.9 per cent more flights handled in Singapore during the quarter compared to a year ago. This was in spite of flight cancellations from some airline customers arising from the Middle East conflict. The group said that demand for the group&rsquo s maintenance, repair and overhaul services remained stable in Q1. This was despite geopolitical tensions, supply chain constraints and inflationary pressures. &ldquo Given the dynamic operating environment, we continue to focus on operational nimbleness, driving productivity and maintaining rigorous cost discipline across our business units,&rdquo said the group. The counter closed 0.6 per cent or S$0.02 lower at S$3.27 before the update on Thursday. |

It will be correct to say that the business might be affected if the management staff, esp the CEO, holding many other positions. In a Corporation like SIA Engineering, the CEO is usually the one managing the businesses and not the Chairman or Deputy Chairman.   Not sure how much the Chairman and Board member of SIA Engg got a month.   Most Chairman or Board members of Corporations just draw an allowance,   some around $500/- per month. Don' t think they wanted to be involved in day to day operations.   On the other hand,   it is always good to have Chairman and Board members coming from various disciplines with wide Corporate knowledges in other Corporations to help the management to steer the direction of the Corporation.  | ||

SIA Engineering, France&rsquo s Safran in US$118 million JV for aircraft engine maintenance in Singapore The two will establish a full-fledged shop for maintenance of CFM Leap aircraft engines [SINGAPORE] SIA Engineering Company : S59 0% (SIAEC) has partnered French aerospace giant Safran Aircraft Engines in a US$118 million joint venture (JV) to set up a full-fledged aircraft engine shop in Singapore. This will provide maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services for CFM Leading Edge Aviation Propulsion (Leap) engines, the engineering arm of Singapore Airlines said in a bourse filing on Saturday (Jun 6). Safran will hold a 51 per cent equity stake in the JV, while SIAEC will own the remaining 49 per cent. Currently, SIAEC performs quick-turn maintenance for Safran&rsquo s Leap engines at its Aircraft Engine Services facility in Changi North. These operations will be folded into the new JV, &ldquo forming the foundation for a future state-of-the-art engine MRO facility&rdquo , said SIAEC. The new facility will increase engine servicing capacity and broaden the range of maintenance services available for Leap-1A and Leap-1B engines, said SIAEC. These engines power the Airbus A320 neo family and Boeing 737 Max aircraft. Financial effects Of the estimated US$118 million in investment, SIAEC will contribute up to US$57.8 million  &ndash including US$13.7 million in in-kind contributions &ndash and Safran up to US$60.2 million. Further capital injection can be made in one or more tranches. If SIAEC had made the total contribution of US$57.8 million on Mar 31, its consolidated earnings per share would have increased by around 6.5 per cent to S$0.1608, said the group. Meanwhile, the group&rsquo s consolidated net asset value per share would have risen 0.6 per cent to S$1.579. Wong Yue Jeen, SIAEC chief commercial officer, said the JV builds on the group&rsquo s Leap 10-year engine maintenance services agreement with Safran, signed in 2019, to provide engine maintenance services to the French manufacturer.  It also combines Safran&rsquo s original equipment manufacturer expertise with SIAEC&rsquo s &ldquo MRO excellence&rdquo , Wong noted. This will help meet growing demand for Leap engine servicing in the Asia-Pacific region, added Safran executive vice-president of support and services Nicolas Potier. Shares of SIAEC closed flat at S$3.18 on Friday, before the announcement. |
