Can any country do without trade?
No manufacturing, no trade, how to compute GDP? The problem is don't know how to do business 1 st thing in business is not to lose money 2) maintain your business 3) expansion 4) low margin, still can make money. Just spend less. 5) have a good business plan

" ...temasek cannot tahan for too long, they would get pressured from singapore government to divest asset. " but this is a ' National Service" shipping line. Do you think they will divest asset and send a message to the world that spore is so incapable of managing national ship liner? CT Goh will sure put up 2 hands to say no to selling NOL. Army General is just waiting for instruction what' s next? Perhaps merger may be a considerable option and fastest way to reward investors for holding NOL like u said and not to loose their face. They simply have to act now and do something and not just Kicking the Can Down the Road, then afew years later same issue again... what to sell next to fund those NOL -Net Operating Loss... or right issues again.... Now is the best time after divesting APL to do something....will be utterly disappointed if they just sit there dreaming and hoping for the better days ahead instead.

don bother sacking him, just make sure he dispose of the liner division as well and unlock all values and return it to investors is better. container shipping u need to be a very big player and have a very lean operating margin to make bigbuck. currently NOL don have the means to return to sustained profitability, better to be sold off or a merger happen fastest way to reward investors for holding ship for so long. There might be business culture resistance within APL liner and that explain the slow pace of restructure, this kind of shit better off selling it and leave it to the new owners to do a massive overhaul of organisation structure plus masiive layoffs. FI they can manage to do a liner divsion spinoff, u be surprised how much the shipping unit can fetch maybe profit in excess of billions... ship have too much non revenue generating asset which can be sold in open market for sky high price. Just look at today share price performance u know the big players are controlling it killing the contra then later buy up to rape off the shortist. Go trade either way, u die. NOL stand for No One Live either contra or short.  temasek cannot tahan for too long, they would get pressured from singapore government to divest asset.

Maybe we shareholders must act and gather 1000 shareholders name and write to temasek holding. Similar to what those remisers wrote to Finance Minister...put pressure on NOL,  then CEO will resign lah... Temasek can afford to sink all its investment not taking any actions, however as minority shareholders we cannot.  As a matter of fact none of us endorsed that he does a good job running NOL since his appointment... any??? except that he is good at disposing off assets.. from building to APL..... NOL has nothing left now :)  We have our voting rights also to voice out our concern and if there is a need to change. We need a more capable person to steer this titanic !          |

As Sø ren Skou, Maerk' s CEO,  admitted when he warned that global trade growth could slow this year from recent 4% growth ratnes, as Chinese, Brazilian and Russian economies disappoint,  the Baltic Dry is still not only relevant and accurate but telling the real story of global growth, or lack thereof.  &ldquo The economies in Europe are still very sluggish. Brazil, Russia and China:  those three economies used to drive a lot of growth, and right now we are not really seeing that to the same extent.  The only real bright spot is the US, and even the US is good but not great.&rdquo   He added that: " To my mind volumes were sluggish.  There is nothing in container volume numbers that suggest that the global economy is just on the verge of starting a new growth trend.&rdquo |

if company make money then no stress, but if u suffer losses year after year u in danger of getting reputation tarnished. basically private sector would not hire u if ugot a bad business record. This is boring, no trading volume and ship share go south till activity pop up. Hope afternoon when european market, ship got more life. Temasek holding under more pressure to divest non profit asset due to inclusion into singapore gov coffer, sooner or later TH would force NOL to divest and unlock value to all share holders. |

Before NOL buy over APL in 1997, it is dealing with bulk commodity transport. After it take over APL, it basically sold off it main business to focus on logistic business. This shown that chance of NOL divest away liner divison is possible, all that boil down is the ability of NOL management to turn in sustain profitability which sadly after 4 years they still cannot do it. In view of shareholder interest, better to divest off APL asset than continue to bleed with no light on sight. We did give NOL management 3 years to turn it around but they kind of suck compared to rival competitor, inability to cut cost in a bigway and changed internal business culture. Best option is just sell off the US shipping asset and bail out since US asset value fetching good price, just take a look at the price market paying for APLL. Singapore just focus on port management which is our strong point instead trying out some dumb breakthorugh which we sucks and bleed CPF money. Doing something familiar which provide stable profit margin is better than ridng the global cutthroat fight in shipping. But again due to national interest, Temasek Holding might privatise it too to take out market pressure on management waiting out on the upturn. The CEO is getting stress out badly lol , getting fatter and fatter due to stress eating lol. look like he gona get it from shareholder in April annual meeting for losses suffered in last 4 year, poor guy. In short NOL is asset rich but need major overhaul in management to turn it around, time running out for management. |

NOL is the national shipping line.  I wld think the liner division is the soul of the coy.  I believe it is there for strategic, or even national, interests.

Why do people call "shell company"?
1) Ignorant 2) Perceived Ignorance Why can just round 18% of NOL can be sold for $1.2 Billion? 1) Value 2) Fundemental In conclusion, Ignorant people sees as shell company. While, smart people sees as value & fundemental company. |

Last year NOL set up 2 shell companies to hold assets for shipping and logistics, look like their intention is clear to divest off assets. they keep deny they selling off apl logistic then bam they sold it off for 1.2b. now they holding share price range bound so market players don benefit. it don make sense to sell off profitable business to cover loss making one but if their intention is to sell off/ merger the liner then it understandable. apl liner currently had 34 new ships worth 2.5b, 5 port terminals in west coast US / japan / taiwan and a container fleet of 1.1 million. The shipping arm is asset rich but loss making due to  poor management judging by how slow the cost savingdrive had been going compare to industry peers. IF liner divsion got sold off, it would be a even bigger bang to value unlock compared to 1.2B sale of APLL. |

prefer nol to divest everything and return proceed to investors, u would be surprised at how much value unlocked from selling those american assets. APL logistics capital is 245Mil , sold off for 1.2Billion 5 fold multiple .... Now we gona  see how NOL management going to explain future plan for the group since they are left with loss making liner division in April shareholder meeting. SACK those high management, good for nothing making losses for 4 year, look at maesrk they make 2.3B  in 2014 for liner divison alone, this say a lot about management skill in NOL. Cannot do it meant cannot do no need to waste investors for their try and error, sack them and sell off the liner then everyone would be happy. Singapore cannot do shipping business we not that aggressive, we stick with port management which we are very good. |

Big players controlling ship share price so noone benefit from contra trading. IF u try to contra u lose money. short also lose basically currently this market is anti - retail players. Jump in then u donate money lol. Gona guess price only move up when APL logistic disposal approval by shareholders and let me guess before that they gona blanket the trading so noone benefit from it except the longtime investors. Singapore stock market suck ass, no trading opportunites, everything is controlled by big players / share holders, go play US/HK market better. In the first place when suspend trading, make people happy for nothing lol. |
