Last yr' s increqase appeared to already bumped up profit by 75%. Another 50% increase is likely to increase it' s profit another 50% at least. Factor in the steep oil px drop n profit cld perhaps increase well over 100% compared to prior to the April 2014 fare increase. So, SMRT' s eps cld jump to the early teens annually soon with the latest increase n if oil px stay low. Share px cld also shoot past $2 again soon (it was abt $1 in Apr 14). Seems only monopolies like these can continue to be luxury dividend plays. On the other hand, some other coys who face harsh competitive environments n bleed yr in yr out have to find ways to reduce costs n increase productivity, etc to survive.

lol so oil price drop, consumers dont benefit at all.. so why transport fare rise? dont tell me the lame reason of ' cos their operating expenses rise.. so they are going to make more profit, by sucking our commuter money + oil price drop.. im tired of them always saying operating expenses rise, therefore need to rise price.. ' cos it makes no sense at all if their profit is rising and saying their operating expenes is rising and therefore need to raise fares..

lol news always say consumers should benefit from oil drop.. but the biggest winner are always the rich haha.. by the time the good stuff flow down to us, all that' s left are already bones and fully benefitted the towkay who eventually sell the oil & related service to us common folks.. we are the lowest life-form as consumers lol

Cruel oil price reduce, doesnot mean that the fuel prices will reduce much.The refinary will get in cheap cruel oil and produce the distilled petroleum and sell it at high price, from july this year untill now look like the petrol price only drop around 20cents from $2plus. |

Public transport operators seek fare adjustments 19 Dec7:41 PM SBS Transit has submitted its application to the Public Transport Council (PTC) seeking bus and rail fare adjustments " amidst an environment of rising costs" . The public transport operator announced this in a press statement on Friday - the deadline for operators to submit their applications to the PTC for fare reviews. Also citing rising operating costs and lower profits, SMRT had said last month that it is aiming for " a better alignment of fares and operating costs" - and that it would be submitting an application for a fare review. Earlier this week, Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew said public transport fares will not be increased by more than 2.8 per cent next year. |
