"Most carriers are still suffering from losses in the container sector, including us. But compared to last year, or after the Lehman shock, freight rates now are low, but can recover the cost of voyages. That's a fact," he said. "We are not so far from the rate level where we can be profitable. That's the reason carriers can hang in there," Mr Konishi said in an interview with London's Containerisation International. "Since summer last year, exports from Asia to Europe and the US have been stronger than the year ago level and intra-Asian trade has been growing quite well," he said. There are problems, Mr Konishi said. "The underlying capacity is there. It's fair to say that this year may be better than last year, but perhaps there won't be a big turn around." Even where carriers can control their lives, such as reducing costs, by building larger and more fuel efficient ships, brings its own problem - overcapacity. "Because every carrier is trying to do his best to manage costs, carrier's build new ships and then comes another round of overcapacity. That's the kind of circle we've been in for the last two years," said Mr Konishi. "Its not really the size of ships that matters, but the slot costs. We'll have 48 ships [of 13,000 - 14,000 TEU] by 2016 and only five of them ordered before the Lehman shock at high prices," he said. "Those 48 ships are very cost competitive when compared to Maersk's 18,000-TEU, 19,000-TEU vessels. There is not much difference in slot costs between them," he said. Maersk paid US$185 million for its 18,000-TEUers in 2011, higher than the $130 million - 150 million paid today for the same size ship. "Maersk vessels are awfully expensive. Of course they have some edge in fuel costs but the difference is very small [between the P3 and G6 fleets] when slow steaming," he said. |

Ship support level slowly inching up, look like Ah gong think it is time to stabilise ship share price. Now hoping that the improving operating cost model would return ship to profit in low freight rate market, then u would start to see Ah gong exercise his unlimited CPF cash reserve to return ship share price to proper valuation and maybe restated back to STI component index. NOL too important stock to be left out on the STI index as it correctly reflected what is going on in the world trade environment. Currently we are in a recession without the crash of stock market and property, global trade are in a slowly recovering stage. Slow and painful inching upward is what defined ship movement now, slow crawling... but one day it would wake up and skyrocket within a very short pace of time. IF trash like tigerair can surge 15%, ship can do better... BTW ship crash from $5.00 to $1.00 so now finding hard support level, waiting for global trade recovering. Endurance and more endurance soon the fruit would be ripe for picking. |

Tiger airway dropped from 2.2 to 40cents. Bounce up to 56.5cents. This can also  happen on NOL if NOL drop all the way down to 40cents, short covering can happen and push it up to 50 to 60 cents. Do you wish?

omg today tigerair surge 15% loss making company how come can surge lol. This is stock market, got big players trading then don care whether make money or not. Ideas is to create good trading momentum and make money when the retail players come in short/punt. Hope BB noticed ship and skyrocket it to kill off shortist and attract more shortists for more killing lol. Virtous circle of shortist killing create a super bull run when virtually every stocks just jump before the great collapse when the big players pull out. Always like that in the past decades, currently might even be more potent with so much cheap credit and money as a result of US QE in the past 3 years. Fear and Greed, currently Fear is receding and Greed is making a comeback the cycle repeat itself every 10 years .... |

Not much upside till investors convinced that ship is on path to sustainable profit margin. That where the slot cost saving come in 2Q, hope it would be quite big enough to cover the low freight rate. P3 delay deployment till Oct also same reason they don want to screw up the peak season surcharge  during summer period Jul - Sep. Anyway freight rate would remain weak till 2016 when the demand and supply would balance out, so hang on but we might see recovery in ship share price due mainly to restructured group efficiency and lower slot cost from fleet renewal programme. |

Well this is NOL, when it really start to move might 1 shot any shortist without warning. Maybe doubling it value in 1 trading day, bankrupting the shortist and benefiting any investors who got balls to hold so long. IT not a miracle but 1 likely outcome waiting to be fulfilled. So many  laggard stock had  doubled in value, left few stocks only.  always remember we are in a  era of cheap credit and the inflation still stubbornly remain very low, it is like the dam is holding out  but the water behind is building up very fast sooner or later the dam  would burst and big flood of money would come and inflated everything before it stabilise. IT is ridiculous in one sense,  QE for 3 years and super low inflation in developed world which go against any logic of high inflation easy money senario. It is pent up demand building over 3 years, sooner or later it gonna be released take care  1 time super tsunamis coming big wave.  after world cup maybe i be jining the fun, now is soccer research time to pick the winner andmake money lol. |
