x 0   x 0  Alert Admin	Container market will be sluggish in short term, due to oversupply of ships of more than 10,000 TEU, combined with demand (that we all know). Scraping of old container liners with slower speed (perhaps those of 15-20yrs ago) were being scrapped but it didn't help much. Really depends on container rates and demand. In fact, container rates are impt. No increase in rates, no point. Inc. in demand also no use. The whole container shipment companies need to increase their rates or casualties are bound to happen. There's only so much bleeding you can take. Also heard vol. for containers at top 3 Chinese ports drop compared to y-o-y. So there you go. I think the selling off don't lie. Went above $1.10 and are hovering at $1.06-$1.065 now. The house expects positive contribution from logistics business, cost savings from liner segment re-engineering, lower bunker expense and larger vessel efficiencies to provide some offset, but sell-side earnings are expected to trend lower. CS remains U/PF with TP: $0.95, and highlights if NOL cannot make profit in the strongest season, profitability for the year will likely once again elude NOL.

At this speed, private equity industry, having conducted $3.4bn investment in ship sector in 2011, is expected to put the largest amount of financing in the sector in 2013, not seen in history. Before 2008 when financial crisis occurred, most shipowners could secure newbuilding costs from banks? ship financing sectors however the financings have greatly shrunk due to recession. Under this circumstance, global private funds, such as Oaktree, Carlyle, Apollo, York Capital and etc., crowd into shipping market with a thought that property value of ship (both newbuilding prices and secondhand vessel prices) hit the bottom. They are said to be expecting high profits to earn later on as advancing from low-point stage of a shipping market cycle. Marine Money said that private equity investment in vessel, $3bn-4bn level yearly, is relatively limited, compared to banks providing $25m at most yearly, however ship industry is seen to be recovering from a long-protracted depression finally, with a sign of ?Smart Money?
