Published  Sep 28, 2025, 03:00 PM Updated  Sep 28, 2025, 07:38 PM SINGAPORE &ndash   Passengers can now join fitness sessions and wellness programmes at the Downtown Line (DTL) Tampines MRT station midway through commuting to their workplaces or homes.
Public transport operator SBS Transit (SBST) unveiled a  15,000 sq ft  wellness village there on Sept 28, to make wellness activities more accessible to commuters and residents. This is the first in SBST&rsquo s series of thematic villages, which aims to transform transport nodes into community hubs.
Offering fitness classes, health talks and wellness workshops, the wellness village at DTL Tampines MRT station is equipped with full-length wall mirrors for members of the public to use during dance, pilates and yoga sessions. The walls at the wellness village are lined with vibrant art murals created by community artists to promote gracious commuting and social connections. One of the murals was created by  Mr Leong Sijun, a  21-year-old artist who has Down syndrome and managed to continue drawing despite gradually losing his eyesight and muscle strength. Tampines GRC MP  Baey Yam Keng, who is  Minister of State for Transport, and Culture, Community and Youth,  attended the launch of the wellness village on Sept 28. SBST also signed several agreements at the opening ceremony, including one with healthcare workshop provider  Fitivate  to conduct wellness activities at its stations, and another with health assessment firm  Kresics Fitness  to promote health awareness via its screening kiosks to help users monitor their key health metrics.
Mr Jeffrey Sim, group chief executive of SBST,  noted that the operator will launch  three  more such villages across its MRT network over the next  15  months, each with its own theme.  On the inspiration behind the themed villages, he said: &ldquo We reimagined our transport nodes as modern-day villages &ndash welcoming spaces that go beyond transit, where people can gather, connect and build meaningful relationships along their journeys.&rdquo Mr Sim added that Tampines was chosen as the location for the wellness village as it is a major interchange with high commuter traffic. Too free and nothing better to do...

SBS Transit used to enjoy economies of scale as the dominant player of the public bus business. With the loss of the Jurong West and Tampines packages, it has lost scale, while continuing to face rising cost pressures. As for rail business, they are never profitable. Both SBS Transit and SMRT have to depend on rail reliability incentives by LTA to make it a worthwhile venture. The outlook is dimmed, as evident by its falling profits. The slide will continue, unless the Board/Mngt takes drastic actions to slash costs. As a unionised company, it will take some guts. |

SBST could be looking overseas for biz opportunities now that they have lost PT220 as our local market is too small and flooded with so many players?

another CDG news.. ComfortDelGro ($1.49, down 1 cent) announced recently the acquisition  of remaining shares in Citycab. CityCab Pte. Ltd. is a joint venture between ComfortDelGro Corporation  Limited and ST Engineering Land Systems Ltd. CDG and STLS owned 53.5%  and 46.5% respectively in CityCab. On 1 September 2025, CDG acquired  all of STLS&rsquo s shares in CityCab. As a result of the Acquisition, CityCab is  now a wholly-owned subsidiary of CDG.  CityCab has been managed by ComfortDelGro since 2005 as part of its  local taxi business. Full ownership will strengthen the Group&rsquo s core pointto-point business in Singapore and allow the Group to better integrate and  shape its global point-to-point business, adapting to market demands and  boosting profit contribution. This move reinforces the Group&rsquo s confidence  in point-to-point mobility as a key transportation solution. The acquisition  is expected to be earnings accretive. The parties had jointly commissioned a valuation by Deloitte & Touche  Financial Advisory Services Pte Ltd (&ldquo Valuer&rdquo ) to determine the market  value of the Sale Shares based on International Valuation Standards.  Based on the Valuer&rsquo s report dated 25 August 2025, the parties have  agreed that the valuation of the Sale Shares is S$98.9 million. Taking  into account the agreed valuation, the Parties arrived at a total purchase  consideration of S$116.3 million on a willing-buyer-willing-seller basis. The purchase consideration for the Acquisition has been paid in full and  was funded through CDG&rsquo s bank facilities. Based on the audited financial statements of Citycab for Financial  Year ended 31 December 2024, the net tangible asset and book value  attributable to STLS&rsquo s shares in CityCab is approximately S$37.4 million. The Acquisition is not expected to have any material impact on the net  tangible assets or earnings per share of CDG for the financial year ending  31 December 2025. None of the Directors or controlling shareholders of CDG have any  interest, direct or indirect, in the Acquisition, save for their respective  interests, through their shareholdings and/or directorships, as the case  may be, in CDG. The Acquisition constitutes a non-discloseable transaction under Chapter  10 of the Listing Manual of the Singapore Exchange Securities Trading  Limited

The bid amount by the operator is the amount which LTA will pay the operator. So SBS' bid is the one with lower profit margin going by your logic.
"Go-Ahead Singapore won the tender to run a total of 27 bus routes under the Tampines bus package with a $646 million bid. It will be paid this amount by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) over the duration of the contract. But the figure may be adjusted for factors such as inflation, change in wage levels, and changes to services during the contract period."

It is better to let oethers running as the current fleet of busses are mostly petrol/diesel bases, many with extreme noise polution . Singaporean should be happy with a quiter Electrical busses and smooth ride and clean air. Infuture, more AV busses will ply Singapoe and thouse with old technology will be out. Weride with investor like grabs, Nvidia will be Singapore market. SBS? with so any directors and management team, if not improve and make better life for Singaporean and commuters and never get support..   |

From July 5, 2026, Go-Ahead Singapore will run bus services in Tampines ? such as 10, 23, 81 and the newly launched 299 ? from the new East Coast Integrated Depot.
Under the new five-year contract, Go-Ahead Singapore will also manage Tampines Bus Interchange, Tampines Concourse Bus Interchange, Tampines North Bus Interchange and Changi Business Park Bus Terminal. It will be taking over from SBS Transit (SBST), which has been running the Tampines bus package since 2016. |

while waiting for news on PT220, below are the views of a transport expert:   The Singapore University of Social Sciences&rsquo Associate Professor Walter Theseira said local operators like SBST have the experience to operate electric buses, but this has largely been on a trial basis. It would thus be logical for those interested in the Tampines contract, and future bus tenders, to seek the expertise of overseas operators with experience  running much bigger electric bus fleets, so they can put in a credible  bid. This could  include  hiring consultants or staff with relevant experience from abroad. However, Prof Theseira also noted that there are not many places with large-scale electric bus operations aside from some cities in China and Europe. Asked if such expertise may lead to more foreign operators entering the Singapore market,  he said it is not clear that there are sufficient economies of scale here to support a fifth bus operator  here. &ldquo With the narrowing of margins in more recent tenders, it is anybody&rsquo s guess if foreign firms will find  it worthwhile to continue participating,&rdquo the transport economist added.
