I think banks will still lead any bull run, but banks may become cautious because a recession may be on the cards and thus they will provision more for bad debts.
Bear is still bullish banks even though there may be some technical weakness. I would not recommend rotating out of banks to singtel as the yield on banks is still higher than this counter. But if you want to bet BIG on Singtel, you are more than welcome. Bro hokpin will give you a welcome drink. I look forward to 4.00 in the coming days... |

UOB just released a set of results below analyst' s expectations... so maybe the tide is starting to turn for the banks as their margins are squeezed by lower interest rates... Hence, there might be a flight towards defensive plays such as Singtel... ST engineering..., which are expected to report better results... | ||||

After market, closed even higher at the highest point at 3.88 with few million shares bought. Strong signal shown. Result anouncement will be on 22 May (Thurs) before the start of trading. From now till D date, people just keep acummulating the shares. Every price drop really presents a buying opportunity. These are my two cents about the possible catalysts. (1) Starhub releases results on May 9th 2025 (Friday) after the market closes. Starhub and M1 are expected to pay for spectrum by June 2025. Keppel may feel pressured to reach a deal for Starhub to buy M1 because (a) Keppel expressed the intention to focus on core business and (b) payment for spectrum is due by June 2025. If Starhub does announce this coming Friday that a deal is reached, the market may read the news as the beginning of a consolidation process that will lead to lower competition, higher prices for plans, and wider margins for telcos. (2) Airtel releases results on May 13th 2025 (probably after the market closes). The results are expected to be positive. Singtel is a partial owner of Airtel. (3) SingTel releases results on May 22nd 2025 (before market opens). The results are expected to be positive. Dividends will be announced. |

Singapore' s high-yield stocks gain from tariff-induced flight to safety Telecommunications firm Singtel (STEL.SI), opens new tab pulled in S$343.6 million ($261.6 million) in the past two weeks alone from institutional investors, more than the S$297 million it received in the first three months of the year, exchange data showed. That compares with S$259 million net institutional outflows from the three Singapore banks - DBS (DBSM.SI), opens new tab, OCBC (OCBC.SI), opens new tab, and United Overseas Bank (UOBH.SI), opens new tab - over the last two weeks, and combined outflow of S$2 billion this year.
