x 0   x 0  Alert Admin	DBS (and the other 2 banks) were the most heavily shorted stocks yesterday.   I find that interesting as xD is tomorrow and given the unusual xB, there is no assurance that price will drop as much as expected.   Its a rather risky move to be shorting DBS now so hat' s off to the brave short sellers.

But none talk about the return of more capital to shareholders. CEO mentioned Basel III last AGM & again this time round. DBS is having 14.5% or 14.6% of capital locked up. With the implementation of Basel III in mid-2024, the excess 1.5 to 1.6% need to be dealt with. &ldquo No where to deploy&rdquo was what CEO emphasized. Organic growth does not need much capex. Only India needs 300 to 500m within 3 to 5 years. This sum is peanuts to DBS. While no foreseeable acquisition is on the horizon, excess cash is piling up (this is despite paying out dividends equal to 40 to 50% of profit). CEO said these cash is going to add a few percentages to the excess 1.5 or 1.6% they already need to do something about. Is this not good news to people who buy DBS for its payouts? We are almost sure dividends are not going to stay at 54c but going up! Another good news CEO told us was, India, Indonesia & Taiwan, are expected to show robust growth. Only Hong Kong & China business remain stagnant (got profit but not growing). With the exception of that Shenzhen privately owned bank, which DBS increased their shareholding recently. This bank is giving DBS very good margin, according to CEO. I wanted to share above with you all after the AGM but was really busy lately. Sorry for the late post.

DBS Group Holdings (DBS) announced record net profit of S$10.28 billion with total income of more than S$20.1 billion. ROE is 18% with allowance coverage at 128%. Balance sheet remains strong with CET-1 ratio at 14.6% and LCR of 144%. DBS is the only listed bank that pays out quarterly dividend. In fact, The bank declared a whopping 54 cents dividend for the quarter ended 31 Dec 2023 and proposed a 1-for-10 bonus issue. The management added that annualised ordinary dividend going forward will be $2.16 per share over the enlarged share base. DBS CEO added that while interest rates are expected to soften and geopolitical tensions persist, DBS franchise strengths will put them in good stead to sustain performance in the coming year. Hence, DBS is one of the 4 Singapore stocks paying out quarterly dividends. .

I am heartened to know that DBS management is so confident about their capital adequacy and are keen to return excess capital to shareholders. My hope is that they also address security issues and improve service quality not just focused on profits generation.
