CLSA just issued an update report this morning, upgrading to a ' buy' call though they lowered TP from $1.37 to $1.22. This doesnt seem that compelling a proposition but anyhow key points were easing margin pressures, increase in taxi commissions above current 5%, UK contract indexations, potential GoJek partnership in 2H23 and possible share buyback. | ||||

The transport operator bought back 207,000 of its shares on Jun 5 at S$1.04 each, for a total consideration of S$215,559.39.
On Jun 8, shares in ComfortDelGro : C52 0% had hit a 52-week low to trade at S$1.01 per share.
In May, the company posted a 56.9 per cent decline in its first-quarter earnings. This was despite a 2.1 per cent rise in its revenue. It attributed these softer financial figures primarily to &ldquo inflationary cost pressures&rdquo on the public transport services division.

Over four trading sessions, there were 72 filings for changes in director interests and substantial shareholdings from 33 primary-listed stocks, as well as 57 filings for share buybacks by 24 companies.
OVER the four trading sessions that spanned from Jun 5 to Jun 8, the Straits Times Index gained 0.6 per cent. The Singapore market was closed on Jun 2 for the Vesak Day public holiday.
There were 72 filings for changes in director interests and substantial shareholdings in that period from 33 primary-listed stocks, as well as 57 filings for share buybacks by 24 companies.

Even if its a value trap and catching a falling knife...so? Semb marine is still alive with manipulation so a cash cow like CDG with manipulation the outcome can only be better not worse not semb mar or NOL....positive examples in the recent past include semb corp, semb log and global log, if u manage to get sph and nol near its low heck you would made a profit as well... Let's talk about EV. 6 billion investment ( ex chair probably was misquoted)most likely consists of building EV like inspection or maintenance plants, so maybe vicom starts this or in some collaboration with ST to manage and inspect ev combat vehicles in the future...ev bus fleet in Europe and China...the possibilities are quite endless...than again this will not happen if the government does not comes in to provide incentives to drive EV...most vehicles in SG will be EV going forward anyway unless one goes to jb my to work everyday... All in a rich and very slow dinosaur...will be very successful with government intervention...if not will be one of those illiquid stocks that nobody trades in soon | ||||

A material difference is that back during GFC, there was no Grab nor these PHV so the operating landscape has changed fundamentally. Disruption is not just about technological innovations but also a change in consumption behavior. We no longer call for a cab or go out to the streets to hail a cab and order one mostly through app (Grab, Gojek, Zig). CDG is certainly late to the game and dint evolve quick enough to maintain market leadership and as a result, lost significant market share over the years. CDG needs a breakthrough with their business else the business will continue shrinking - the positive is their very strong balance sheet and that the business remains operating and free cash flow positive. Would love to see how the new chair leverage on this to lead the group forward, hopefully in a new and positive direction.

Just a point to note that the balance sheet consolidates the financials of SBS and VICOM given that CDG has > 51% ownership so its not exactly ' net' belongings of CDG
