This set of NOL Mgmt is not going to make it. Citing continuing cost cutting while losing volume amidst lower freight rate while the overall container volume is rising esp the transatlantic lane to US.
Finance expenses for Q3 alone increased by US$42m. Imagine if such finance expenses is not incurred, Q3 would have been profitable ! Best to do now is to divest, pay off debt and then sell NOL to more capable hands. In the meantime, don't write off the possibility of buy on 'not as disappointing' news if the industry has factored in worst result as against sell on good news. After all, we know that NOL mgmt is damn secretive in disclosing to shareholders their action plan but yet can't keep secret from industry from the leak to Reuters of the interest to sell APL Logistic. After that, Korean logistic firm file intent to purchase APL logistic to Korean Stock Exchange while NOL Mgmt remained silent. Next NOL price jumped on high volume. As retail investors, we came to know the reasons only when Bloomberg reported NOL issuing sales report to interested buyers ! All the while, NOL did not make any disclosure except to warn investors to trade with caution as the deal may not materialize ! Well, we don't know what else have been leaked to insiders so we can't be sure how NOL price will react on Monday. |

If followed as below, NOL will be a bright star in future. My Advise (Superior Strategy): - Sell half of APL (Shipping) to manage undercapacity Liner Operation. This will improve liner revenue & having lesser scale of vessels & operating costs to maintain. - Issue APL (Logistics) as IPO to retain overall control. Sell 40% of APL Logistics shares to buyer, retain 60%. Work with buyers to expand network & business. This 2 strategies need to be operated simultaneously to turn NOL into very profitable business. |

this is some BS result presentation.
Transpacific trade numbers is up but apl volume is flat on the trade. Only 30 dollar increment on transpacific compared to Q2. wheres the TSA recommended PSS? 57million more for terminal congestion? How come never pass on cost to shipper since no pss charges? Assume all 192k transpacific vol is on west coast, a 57m charge is almost 300 per feu. Show no concious control on cost and let it spiral. This cannot include cost of ship idling while waiting for its turn. That goes under depreciation. This is complete BS from the management. |

YTD loss is US$175m. Q3 loss is US$23m. OCBC in its 10 Oct report forecasted a loss of US$268.7m for FY14 and upgraded to HOLD based on valuation. | ||||

Anybody out there holding shorts position ? There should be more clarity at the usual analysts briefing after the release of the Q3 result. I'm sure many analysts will grill them on their plan after disposing of APL Logistics and if they will dispose of the terminal next. | ||||

Agreed but NOL has been so quiet on the progress of the sales. As retail investor, we learnt of it from news site instead of hearing from NOL itself. This is unfair. Apparently, insiders already knew it yesterday that it jumped on very high volume. Shouldn't SGX question NOL on their transparency !!!???

Seems that market is expecting NOL to report a loss for Q3. NOL has been reporting profit for Q3 for last 2 years although it reported full year loss for last 3 years. Hopefully if it turns out a loss, the market has factored that in such that instead of sell on news, it may rebound on news instead.

I am not interested in Q3 result, but on selling of APL Logistics. USD 1 billion is a living lifeline for NOL, which in turn allow NOL to cut its debt more than 50%. Restructuring will follow. NOL will probably be in red, as shipping sector haven't recover yet. But NOL true Fundemental lies in 3 areas- Terminal (Profitable), Logistics (Profitable) & Shipping (Struggling).
