Every punting uncle sing song tell story for CDG Taxis and look down at PHV but in real life, they book Grab or GoJek infront of a long queue of taxis. Why? Because they cannot punt Grab shares now. When no fish, prawns also can.
If Hyflux is still puntable now, everyone will also sing song tell story for it. No one believe they would end up at Hong Lim corner to protest. |

Many of us here comment as if is doom for ComfortDelgro due to the competion form PHV. In case if you do not know, from their report for H1 2020, Bus station business contribute to 78.5% of CDG' s revenue.  Taxi forms 11.4% of revenue.  Just becuase we all know it branding as a taxi company, does not mean that it is a taxi company anymore. Just like we all know that UIC as a detergent company.  Do you know that they are a property developer now? |

Grab made a mistake by venturing into the ride-hailing business from a start.
Ride-hailing is NOT a sustainable business, unless Grab rent out vehicles and do servcing and repair of vehicles like CDG and other taxi companies.
I hate to say this but if Grab were to start as fintech, it would probably be listed by now, after burning billions of dollars.
I still hold by my conviction, that no company, in this world is profitable in doing ride-hailing business ALONE.
Why? Because ride-hailing business is not like Amazon, Google or Facebook, where you only have one group if customers to please.
The fundamental flaw of ride hailing business model is it has to serve 2 customers with direct conflicting interests. It has to make riders happy, how, by lowering the fares, but at the same time, it has to make the drivers happy, how, by raising the fares, so how, now, give riders discount and give drivers incentives loh, who don't know this, burn money only loh. I use my buttocks also can think of this method.
But you look at taxi business. Taxi companies just collect rental, how much fares the drivers want to earn and the riders want to pay, it is up to them. Let them fight it out, let them complain to LTA, it is actually, none of the taxi companies business.

Grab is not only facing intense competition in the ride hailing, food delivery sectors SEA valued at 100 billion dollars vs Grab (14 billion), have significant stolen market share in the payment services (Shopee belongs to SEA) and continues to venture into digital banking. Who will be in a better position to succeed?

You speak as though CDG of a sitting duck waitjng to be shot and there is no company in this world that can do s ride-hailing business. 1) CDG can't invest more overseas? can't expand its PHV fleet? Can't pentrate into immature markets overseas? CDG has healthy cashflow. 2) no company in this world can set up ride-hailing business? Ride-hailing business is a low barrier entry business as it doesn't own any hard assets. Uber gone, now Go-jek, who is coming next, we don't know maybe after merging with go-jek, there is company C,D,E, F coming in? But we know that CDG is still surviving since Grab come to Singapore 8 years ago.

whether grab is listed or not, its business is already here for years u mean by getting listed, suddenly it becomes a super nova and other things will collapse? 🤣 😂 🤣 IPO happens all the time, u sounded as though Grab is the first ever company to be listed

Before Grab is listed, of course it is possible to punt CDG shares if one has the guts. This is because many punter have no clue about how this company's business. No one believed Hyflux could collapes before it is too late.
Taxis drivers' and PHV drivers' business are now better than before Covid because everyone is locked in Singapore. But that does not mean that more people will drive CDG taxis. My speculation is there will be 2 crashes for this shares: 1. When Grab is listed 2. When Grab is included into STI Index and CDG taken out Meantime, happy punting!
