Here&rsquo s what you need to know in financial markets on Wednesday, December 9th. 1. Pfizer allergic reaction U.K. health regulators warned that people suffering from allergy issues should not take the vaccine developed by Pfizer (NYSE:PFE) and BioNTech (NASDAQ:BNTX), after two British healthcare professionals experienced allergic reactions to the drug after being inoculated earlier in the week. Both carers are recovering well, according to an official from the National Health Service for England. The news comes only two days after the U.K. began a mass immunization program using the drug, and a day after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said it had found no safety issues in an analysis of data from the companies&rsquo stage 3 trial. The FDA is expected to approve the drug for emergency use at a meeting on Thursday. Elsewhere, the U.K. medical journal The Lancet published a peer review of the drug being developed by AstraZeneca (NASDAQ:AZN) and the University of Oxford, confirming it has over an efficacy rate of over 70% - markedly less than the Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna (NASDAQ:MRNA) drugs, but enough to make it serviceable. Authorities in the United Arab Emirates confirmed that a drug developed by Chinese biotech company Sinopharm has an 86% efficacy rate. |

With the sales/distributionship network that they have built up as well as the different COVID-19 test kits that they have for the market, shouldn' t they do better?? Let' s wait and see.. |

Indonesia shatters COVID-19 daily record with more than 8,000 new cases JAKARTA: Indonesia recorded its biggest daily rise in COVID-19 infections on Thursday (Dec 3), with 8,369 new cases, according to its COVID-19 task force, which attributed the jump to a lag in some areas reporting cases. The sharp spike &ndash more than 2,000 cases higher than the previous record on Sunday &ndash brings Indonesia' s infections total to 557,877, the highest number of coronavirus cases in the Southeast Asia region. It has so far recorded 17,355 deaths related to COVID-19, with 156 reported on Thursday. Experts said the Southeast Asian nation' s low testing has masked a higher number of infections. Cases have steadily risen since March but the volume of new daily infections has increased in recent weeks, with record daily infections in four of the past nine days. Task force spokesman Wiku Adisasmito said Thursday' s spike was due to data reporting and verification delays in several regions. That included Papua, he said, where all 1,755 of the cases it has recorded since Nov 19 were reflected in Thursday' s national figures. " This very high number is caused by a system that' s not optimal at accommodating real-time recording and data validation," Wiku said. Central Java and West Java also had lags, he said. The recent jump in daily cases, however, was a worrying indicator. " This shows that the rate of transmission is still increasing," he said. " It happens because people increasingly flout health protocols and this negligence could be fatal." Jakarta governor Anies Baswedan on Tuesday said he had tested positive for COVID-19. The 51-year-old is among a number of politicians and officials to contract the coronavirus. Indonesia' s transportation and religious affairs ministers have previously been treated for COVID-19. In a video posted on his Instagram account, the governor said he was currently asymptomatic and would self-isolate. " I would like to remind everyone that COVID-19 is still around and can come to anyone," he said. His deputy, Ahmad Riza Patria, also tested positive for the virus on Sunday, according to the city' s website. |
