Shortists responsible for this? I highly doubt so.  Okay guys, lets listen up. This evening is result time! Now, three brave hearts have made a guess as to what the 1H (1Q plus 2Q) loss would be. The average of those three figures is a 2.17bn loss. Any other guesses? I can tally up and then we will see how close we are. No points for guessing. No dividend deductions for wrong answers.

the birds, non-cash asset/material impairment impairment on future earnings shld be discounted, or rather priced in stock till.......dark winter, hopeful spring, summer revival?    hope there is revaluation on vaccines haha   |

Reviewing the fleet means SIA cannot tahan to hold on to the planes. It has 200+ planes idling around. Some parked in Australia. They need to rationalise and cut costs.
Yes, impairment is non cash item. But this means the future earnings / cashflow cannot be generated. Thats why impairment is needed. It is reflection of the asset?s quality. Cashflow and profit are inline. It just timing differences Say u have total of 200 planes but u know 90 planes will not be flown or at very low utilisation till 2024? U need to account for the lost of earnings, thats why impairment needed. Accounting standards are here for reason. I see a lot of punters here dont understand a lot of concepts. Just focus on ? this qtr got dividends or not? ?is div yield >10%? If yes, buy! |

yeah on hindsight you are right on the A380s, these are a liability too expensive to fly luxury now, too big for cargo efficiency but i dun think they are in a hurry to write off yet, maybe non-cash impairment without impact on losses? lets see

I am looking forward to a less volatile SIA shares.
The results will come as expected.
There will be no dividends.
Earnings will improve slowly.
Debts are managed well.
SIA will keep the option of issuing MCB at later date if needs arise.

Downsizing will be a different story as these aircraft will be sold and losses will be recognized.  But at least, they will have some cash flow. This is a step in the right direction - selling off aircraft! They may just be able to survive on a leaner and meaner outfit... ...

See under outlook. SIA looking to downsize fleet and A380
is specially mentioned. If SIA dont retire, then they will need to continue to pay for parking fees which is not like parking a car monthly for $100+ only. Significant costs. This impairment loss is an accounting loss to account for the grounding of the a380 fleet. When these fly again, they are reversed.
