Temasek owns 52% of SIA so they may privatise the airlines if its share price drop drastically. Anyway, SIA has lots of cash and can withstand the the impact of the effect of the coronavirus. Heard it is going to reduce its route capacity by 50%. And may even layoff staff which they did during the SARS crisis in 2003.

It will be very interesting to see the reaction of Temasek if SIA share price dived below $5, coupled with huge layout in SIA. Will Temasek bail out or nationalise SIA is worth to be seen.

temasek won' t even try....not quite their mandate to ' rescue' share prices  global recession on the way....if you have been in the market since mid-90s before AFC till now, same slowdown fears, different viaduct only. companies can go bust, capital raises on the cards? cashed up and ready to do deals like Buffett? that' s GFC again  in coming 1-2qtrs would be luvly to pick sub-intrinsic value names among the heap as covid reveals US and European policy and structural weaknesses. looking forward to repeat gameplay again - don' t forget many investors' ports made a killing on the subsequent recovery past the darkest days  don' t see any option market chatter here...any option traders on SJ?

Temasek cant go round saving all Singapore companies. Their portfolio will be all the loss making companies... also like govt bailout. And how do they get returns that is needed for our cpf if they dont invest wisely | ||||

So many shorted SIA, Temasek knew it and yet they didn' t do anything about it. Are they waiting for further fall initiated by short sellers? After which, then they activated the buy back to kill the short sellers. Temasek investment arm is monitoring the situation. Just by pushing the share price up to $8 or more will wipe out the short sellers. From the profits, you can then save SIA. | ||||

My suggestion is: those with stock, better dump it now when it is a dead cat bounce. Those who want short, this is best time. If a major airline said their airline will take a long time to recover after this crisis. What about SIA which has zero domestic lines? I reiterate TP $5 | ||||

SINGAPORE Airlines (SIA) on Tuesday announced a fresh round of flight cuts as travel restrictions continue to surface amid the global Covid-19 pandemic. The latest suspensions mean that the carrier will operate at only half the capacity that had been originally scheduled up to end-April, said the carrier in a statement. SIA is expecting to make further cuts to its capacity given the growing scale of the border controls globally and its " deepening impact" on air travel. SIA chief executive Goh Choon Phong said: &ldquo We have lost a large amount of our traffic in a very short time, and it will not be viable for us to maintain our current network. Make no mistake &ndash we expect the pace of this deterioration to accelerate. The SIA Group must be prepared for a prolonged period of difficulty." The group further said it is actively taking steps to build up its liquidity, and will also " consult the unions once again" as it " urgently takes steps" to further cut costs.
