Probably because of this news Genting Sing
went upwards 👉 VIP scenario brighter in Singapore than Macau: Maybank Jan 15, 2019 Japan Newsdesk VIP scenario brighter in Singapore than Macau: Maybank Maybank Kim Eng, the investment bank in the Malayan Banking Bhd group, sees a greater potential for growth in gross gaming revenue (GGR) among Singapore?s VIP gamblers than it does for the same market segment in Macau. Maybank says Macau?s revised smoking law and an easing economy in mainland China will combine to create a ?weak outlook? for GGR in Macau?s VIP market segment. In a note from analyst Yin Shao Yang published on Monday, Maybank said it was maintaining its forecast that annual VIP GGR in Singapore will grow by 5 percent this year and 5 percent in 2020. According to a forecast published last week by the stockbroking arm of Japan?s Nomura finance group, ?consensus expectations? for Macau ?are for (7.5 percent) VIP compression in the first half of 2019 and up low single digits in the second half.? ?Given the historical relationship between Macau VIP GGR and Singapore VIP volume, investors are understandably concerned that the Singapore VIP market will decelerate as well,? the Maybank note said. However, the investment bank added it was ?more sanguine and? not as pessimistic? as those brokerages that see Singapore?s VIP GGR also declining this year. The note said Marina Bay Sands (pictured in a file photo) and Resorts World Sentosa ? Singapore?s only two casino resorts, owned by Las Vegas Sands Corp and Genting Singapore Ltd, respectively ? were not subject to a smoking ban and have the capacity to relax their ?tight credit policies to VIPs?. Up to December 31, VIP rooms were the only places in Macau casinos that had still been allowing smoking at the gaming table. Tableside smoking ended when new rules on smoking in casinos in Macau came into effect on January 1. A December report on the casino sector outlook for Macau from brokerage Sanford C. Bernstein Ltd said the new smoking rules were ?likely a headwind for the industry?. Maybank also considered the impact of changes to the infrastructure at both Singapore properties. ?Las Vegas Sands has repeatedly stated that it wishes to grow Marina Bay Sands hotel room inventory from 2,561 currently. Genting Singapore has also repeatedly stated that it intends to invest SGD1 billion [US$739.4 million] over three to four years to rejuvenate and expand Resorts World Sentosa,? the note said. It added: ?In the first half of 2019, Genting Singapore is expected to announce its Resorts World Sentosa rejuvenation and expansion plan. By extension, we also gather that Las Vegas Sands will announce its Marina Bay Sands expansion plan then. Details are lacking at this point, but we believe that their plans involve more hotel rooms and new tourism attractions to complement their existing casinos.? |

Is Genting Singapore A Bargain Now?
David Kuo | January 15, 2019 | More on: G13 Genting Singapore Ltd (SGX: G13) is a Singapore-listed casino and integrated resorts owner and operator with a market capitalisation of S$12.6 billion. It is best known for its flagship, Resorts World Sentosa, which operates one of only two casinos here in Singapore. Apart from the casino, Resorts World is also known for its theme park, Universal Studios Singapore. Between 1 Jan and 31 Dec 2018, Genting?s total return, which includes reinvested dividends has underwhelmed with a negative return of 23.2%, while the STI index (SGX: ^STI) dropped by 6.5%. With Genting Singapore underperforming the STI index, could it be a bargain at current prices? The price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio, price-to-book (P/B) ratio, the dividend yield and net debt-to-equity ratio could provide some useful clues. The leisure conglomerate has a trailing twelve months (TTM) earnings per share of S$0.06. Its current share price is S$1.04, which equates to a P/E ratio of 17.3. That is lower than its one-year historical PE ratio of 20.85. At the end of the third quarter of 2018, Genting reported a Net Asset Value of S$0.63. This implies a P/B ratio of 1.65 at current prices. With Genting being primarily a services company, a high P/B ratio is not unusual. As such, its P/B should be compared to the industry average to get a clearer picture. At end September 2018, Genting had net cash of S$2.86 billion, while total equity stood at S$7.63 billion. In fact, over the past four years (2014-2017), it has consistently maintained a pristine balance sheet with more cash than debt. Lastly, Genting?s dividend has been increasing over the last four years moving from S$0.01 in 2014 to S$0.035 in 2017. Assuming the company pays out a dividend at the same rate as 2017 this would lead to a yield of 3.4% at current prices. Looking at the four metrics, with Genting?s PE ratio below its one-year historical level and its balance sheet in great shape, together with a decent dividend yield, Genting seems to be attractively priced at current levels. But investors should only use the analysis here to provide a starting point for further evaluation. The Motley Fool Singapore writer Esjay contributed towards this article. Esjay does not own shares in Genting.

Japan News!
Up to three casino projects will be permitted at yet-to-be determined locations across the country under a first wave of casino liberalisation. Hokkaido has consistently been mentioned as a potential location for one of Japan?s first such venues. |
