 Alert Admin 		bro, back when economy was super rosy last 1/2 year ago, when dbs  gave 1.10 dividends. it cheong  to 31 plus pre xd. and after xd, drop close to 1.50 i think. my concern is that under such conditions, i believe it may drop in excess of 60 cents after xd. like $1 from pre xd closing price.

(早 报 讯 ) The banking industry will face tremendous disruption in the next few years, especially the rise of financial technology. DBS has been fully prepared for the future through continuous innovation and transformation.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong today praised the bank' s progress and resilience at the celebration of the 50th anniversary of DBS. He believed that its business development path in the past half century symbolized the growth of Singapore and the Chinese.

Premier Li said: " The DBS will continue to play an important role in China' s development, support the growth of our company, and let our flag fly on the international stage."


DBS Group was founded in 1968.  Li Xianlong pointed out that DBS played a positive role in the early industrialization process in China.  In addition to providing financing for the company, it also persuaded multinational companies to set up manufacturing plants in China and bear many risks.

He pointed out that DBS is the main support force for Singapore to become an international financial center.  For example, it issued a $10 million bond denominated in Asian currencies in 1971 and was the first local bank to introduce a long-term financing plan.

Premier Li said: " As the former president of DBS Hou Yong chang said, even if this is not the lowest cost source of funds, the motivation is to lead others and further transform Singapore into an international financial center." Repost...this was what i posted just before market open today in another thread.

My Opinion on DBS result.
1) Q2 result came in seemingly positive, but its below (at least my) expectation.
2) Result confirms the slow down in momentum in revenue growth and profit (see presentation slide 26 of 35)
3) Overall loan growth of 12% up 37B on year, this includes the 9B contribution of ANZ.  Meaning without the ANZ contribution, loan growth would be -10% - 12%? (see presentation slide 7 of 35).  Does this mean that their growth organically is very bad, in fact negative?  Is this a management issue?  If so, I expect the newly aquired ANZ biz will suffer if its under the same management.
4) I cannot see any staement on possible forex losses especially to the the value of the loan made to China and HK in SGD terms. I would make sense that loan to consumers and retailers are made in the local currencies while corporate loans usually a mix of local currencies and USD, hence, I expect the value of their existing loan to China and HK to drop, in SGD terms.  And seeing how China Companies do biz and their accounting practises, I expect provision for NPL to grow if the Trade war continues.
5) The CEO expectation of a drop in loan growth from 8% to 6 - 7%, in my opinion seems overly optimistic.
6) The results explains why Instituition have been net seller of the past 2 weeks.

 Alert Admin 		Big data, internet trawling, analysis of banks' customers biz activities and you get a pretty educated guess on how the bank is performing...... there are companies out there doing similar things, at a price.   Market Research?   For example, how else do you think i know sgx would have go results? It was an educated guess based on the data they publish on sgx. If i can do that, imagine what well resourced funds can do with dbs.   So dun put words in my mouth regarding the insider thingy.  cheeky

Below is an interesting link on banks DBS .......While many ( esp some funds /house ) wld talk down DBS so as to accumulate at 4.5
% yield ( a super blue chip bank which is making $6B profit a year....I am sure an envy to many other banks.

Trade issue so far cld be a factor pressing down NOT just DBS but actually the whole market /however, there cld be some positive for SEA region too.

Whatever DYODD , the Dumbo ( as some call ) ....is cute and not forgeting a flying one too.
