Just a personal observation on these tech counters: UMS, Hi-P, AEM, Creative, Venture, Sunningdale Tech. Whenever mkt very volatile, the other counters will hv big swings in price. But if you see UMS, very steady. Even today can see... all tech counters are down, UMS only dropped from 1.16 to 1.12. I queued whole day at 1.11, never get, mmm but I like that it' s steady. And when mkt uptrend, it also goes up, albeit smaller swing, but for me, this is a safer counter. I only starting for follow Venture. I' ve have seen the super volatile swings of Creative, +/- > 10%. But when comes to Venture, 12% drop, shed like $4, win liao. So scary. I jeep some today. I hope Nasdaq (and futures) will be green soon. Else no eye see... *Cross fingers*....

In expansion mode with incrasing revenue and profits. Have manufacturing facilities in Singapore, Malaysia and USA (surprise, surprise) so Trump' s trade retriction will have limited impact on UMS. IMO, DYDD.

And rosy economic expansion : Singapore' s manufacturing activity grows for 19th straight month in March MON, APR 02, 2018 - 9:02 PM SINGAPORE' S manufacturing sector saw its 19th straight month of improved conditions in March, as its Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) edged up to 53.0 from an earlier 52.7. This was a notch faster than economists' expectations of 52.8, according to a poll by Bloomberg. The latest PMI reading was attributed mainly to faster growth in factory output, as well as higher new orders and new exports, according to results released on Monday by the Singapore Institute of Purchasing and Materials Management (SIPMM), which compiles the data. " The higher PMI reading was broad-based across most manufacturing sectors, indicating the resilience of the sectors," said SIPMM. The electronics sub-sector, which has been leading manufacturing output growth thus far, saw an increase of 0.3 point from the previous month at 52.4. This is its 20th consecutive month of expansion, and the highest reading since April 2011. UMS Holdings acquires 70% stake in Starke SingaporeBy:

SINGAPORE (Mar 29): UMS Holdings announced that it is acquiring a 70% stake in non-ferrous metal alloys specialist, Starke Singapore. The cash consideration for the acquisition will be determined based on the net tangible assets value per share of Starke calculated based on the management accounts of Starke for the financial period ended March. However, if based on Starke&rsquo s unaudited management accounts for the financial year ended Dec 2017, the consideration shall be $7.1 million. The acquisition will provide the group with a good opportunity to secure cost savings, improve gross margin and enhance business and operational synergies through upstream integration of the supply chain of raw materials. In addition, it will also enhance the credibility of the order fulfilment of the group&rsquo s machining business. The group intends to fund this acquisition via internal resources. Andy Luong, chairman and CEO UMS, says, " This deal is both strategic and synergistic for UMS. We can gain from better economies of scale in view of the larger demand from UMS and other members of our group including JEP Holdings, which makes precision parts for the aerospace sector.&rdquo Shares in UMS closed 1 cents higher at $1.17 on Thursday. |

How far we don't know but market downturn will not ease for a while. The tension from the trade war is still there.
This kind of issue don't resolve in days. I had released my fund to anticipate a buy back at lower price if it happen........

Two recent events are related to UMS :- 1) the plunge of tech stocks in The US after the Facebook fiasco. 2) the new policy announced last night about the US gov' t not allowing Chinese companies to own stakes in ' sensitive' US companies, egs semiconductor companies,.. How far will UMS drop because of the above development ? |

Agree. Doubt will have take over offer. This saying have been started since years ago but never see any sign of T/O.
On the other hand can see their result growing nicely and the price kinda reflect it. Managements doing a good job so a thumb up for them. I too prefer collecting good dividend as my base capital are earning a good 10% annually from this counter.
