the 4 cents dividend per quarter is higher than its net profit per quarter. so one cannot assume this dividend can be maintained. i think it might get reduced again.

this Starhub is going to sink like the Titanic with this news.................................. Discovery' s portfolio of 11 TV channels to be dropped from StarHub after June 30WED, MAY 30, 2018 - 9:58 AM AFTER June 30, StarHub television subscribers will be losing up to 11 popular lifestyle channels including Discovery Channel, Animal Planet and TLC. Then, after August 31, channels such as Food Network, HGTV and Asian Food Channel will also be gone. All of these channels fall under the Discovery brand, which is known for producing educational as well as entertaining lifestyle and science programmes. In a statement sent by Discovery on Wednesday morning, the company said that this is happening because StarHub is " not prepared to pay fair value" for the content. The release said: " In Discovery' s recent negotiations with StarHub, we have unfortunately reached an impasse as StarHub is not prepared to pay fair value and have announced their decision to cease transmission of all 11 Discovery channels on their platform... We have a responsibility to now take the extraordinary step of informing our viewers that they may lose all the Discovery channels they are paying for on StarHub." SINGAPORE (May 3):
StarHub reported a 14.9% decline in 1Q18 earnings to $61.5 million from $72.3 million a year ago on lower sales. The telco was expected to reported earnings of $69.5 million, according to Thomson Reuters. Total revenue for the quarter fell 4.7% to $561 million from $588.7 million in 1Q17. This came on the back of 7.1% and 10% revenue declines in the Mobile and Pay TV segments to $205.1 million and $80.7 million, respectively. The lower Mobile revenue was largely due to a fall in post-paid customer base as a result of a one-time termination of 23,000 inactive legacy data-only lines in 3Q17. Both pre- and post-paid average revenue per users (ARPUs) fell by $2 to $13 and $43, respectively, from a year ago. Contributions from Pay TV fell as its customer base decreased by 38,000 to slightly under half a million households while churn rate was kept low at 0.9%. ARPU fell $1 to $51 compared to a year ago. The telco has declared an interim dividend of 4 cents per share for the latest quarter, which will be paid on May 25 after its final dividend of 4 cents per share for FY17 is paid out on May 10. Telcos here are in a sunset industry hampered by the tiny population here SG is only HALF the population of New York City and the land area is also smaller. Telco growth here is a joke, not to mention a new competitor is entering the fighting ring soon. Donovan says Starhub will be pummelled to $2. Reading the news these past few years, many sunset/dying/malnourished/declining SGX counters have been tranforming themselves by entering the property development/investment industry. Because SG is all about Property and Finance.
