I am not sure too. Maybe need still comply to certain KPI. Remember only recently they phase out 2G, so 3G certainly long way to go. Anyway, the assessment came from M1 CEO, I guess she knows better.

Finally, i found an easy-to-understand article. Key takeaway in these 2 paragraghs. I think The 4th telco will have unfair advantage over existing ones.  M1' s response summed up the obstacles existing telcos face if they had to migrate their technologies. " Without any 900MHz spectrum for deployment to meet IDA' s stringent mandated 3G requirements, a significant increase in the number of base stations will be needed to address the challenge in achieving in-building coverage," it said. " Notwithstanding the costs involved, the practical difficulty in acquiring more than 1,000 additional sites will result in a prolonged period of poor customer experience and degraded 3G service."   http://www.straitstimes.com/opinion/why-the-telcos-are-fighting-over-a-sliver-of-airspace

Bro, i did more research into this. My understanding is this: 1. The 2 new bidders has priority to bid up to 33.3% of the 900MHz (this is total available, read the link below, existing telco' s right expire soon and need to put back into the pool).  2. Then the remaining 66.6% will open to existing 3 telcos to bid. So at least one of them will get less than 33% share. 3. Is this 900MHz important? My understanding is that you can use other bandwidth but need more equipment investment, also this bandwidth is more reliable. So it is critical to meet compliance. Read the report below on impact if existing telco do not get back the same amout bandwith. That' s why the report brand IDA proposal very generous to 4th telco. If that' s the case, assumption that 4th telco has to build the same infrastructure and only compete on price does NOT stand.   https://www.telegeography.com/products/commsupdate/articles/2015/10/16/singapore-newcomers-slam-incumbents-over-their-900mhz-allocation-plan/

No need to queue la. Just grab from the sellers. Already at 6 year low. Other people need to queue for 6 years to buy at current price. | ||||

I just switched to M1 last night. My first reaction after inserting the SIM card, wow so fast ah! Actually, my ex-telco used to be fast too. But dunno why lately getting very slow. Was wondering whether it was my new phone causing the problem. Seems like my phone is fine actually. |

When the 4th telco comes into the picture, the next move will be one of the telco may be bought over or merge with another bigger telco. Then it will go back to square one i.e. 3 telcos. |

How we think of the 4th telco isn' t important. The market will react negatively and assume the worst outcome. All telcos has revised their price plans to prepare for 4th telco already. unlikely to see shockwaves made.

I am not sure. It said 1/3 is reserved for 4th telco. So SIngtel, Starhub and M1 have to fight for remaining 2/3. In other words, at least 1 existing telco will have LESS than the 4th telco. Now maybe that's the reason why the 4th telco bidders are so confident.

Hope I cld make some sense of it.  There are two GSM bands, 900MHz (premium, lower operating costs) n 1800MHz through which mobile communications are conducted.  IMDA, probably realising that the 4th telco needs a helping hand to challenge the 3  entrenched incumbents, is giving it priority access to a third of the remaining useable 900 band still not taken up (the other telcos, I believe, have  long taken up parts of this band already), provided  it bids at a px acceptable to IMDA.  Hope I am correct in my understanding.

Anyone understand this? Does it mean the 4th telco can roll out the service earlier than the incumbents?

More likely to see support come in around $1.8. Not likely to drop to $1.6. $1.94 now. Still no volume.
