x 0   x 0  Alert Admin	Hedging is a strategy which when used selectively can help you to LOON a temporary setback and also to profit from your stock going against you meantime. Let me illustrate. Take SingTel. She is what I call a Sure Come Stock.    Why " Sure Come" ? When she has peaked out and is at her High Tide (which is around $4.00 to $4.10), she will surely come back down. And when she has bottomed out and is at her Low Tide (which is around 3.30 to 3.60 based on her 5-Yr Daily chart), she will surely come back up. Hence the " Sure Come" label. Say you start to pick bottom at 3.64 yesterday and you went LONG. But she says... " Uh...Uh... I am not done with the falling yet. I am still searching for my bottom" and she continues to fall. So what can you do? Option A is to do nothing. Just LOON your LONG positions at 3.64 and wait for her to bottom out and U-turn back up. Then you add more LONG positions. If she continues to recover, you continue to add more LONGs and scale up your positions so that you can maximize your profits from her recovery. That' s one way to play. But its not the only way. That brings us to Option B. In Option B, you also LOON your LONG positions opened at 3.64. But instead of merely watching the price go down and not benefitting from its fall, you open SHORT positions as well. Care must be taken to " lock away" your LONG positions so that when you open a SHORT position, the trading platform software will not execute your SELL order to sell away your stuck LONG positions opened at 3.64. There is a " force open"   function you can use to force the trading platform software to open a SHORT position without selling off your existing LONG positions. That way, whilst your stock continues to fall in search of her bottom, you are benefitting from that fall. Your SHORTs are in the money.  The objective is to wait till the stock has bottomed out and U-turned back up. That' s when you COVER your SHORT positions to book your profits. And if the stock continues to recover, you then add more LONG positions to scale up your positions to maximize your gains from the stock' s recovery. That' s how you can use hedging as a strategy to profit from a stock' s fall or rise. x 0   x 0  Alert Admin	IG' s standard commission for all new sign ups is 0.1% of transaction value. This is an " all in" rate. There is no GST added to the 0.1%. Other Houses levy GST on top of their base rate. Funds normally find stocks with a 5% Dividend Yield attractive enough to stock-up for long term investment. With a dividend payout of 17.5 cts per annum, at 3.50, that will be exactly 5%. Chart shows a possible bottom anywhere between 3.30 to 3.60. Just be mindful that if you keep adding to average down, you may run out of bullets before the stock runs out of bottoms. I am waiting for her to bottom out and bounce. Its okay to miss the bottom. Buy after the bottom is reached and she starts bouncing is to me, a better way to buy a stock.
