I guess comfort management level think the same way as you . That's why the situation looks so passive. They always think that Grab won't be able to make it but nv think how they can make themselves better during the battle. I think Grab not stupid so do their investigators. Now they are at phase 1 or phase 2 ...more to come. Comfort really got to watch out leh... firstly Grab biz , now Grab driver, at the end might grab the whole industry....

Nowadays parking fees not cheap. Shopping centres may not open before 10am too. In fact I was thinking, those who seriously want to drive to make a living should have opted to be a taxi driver. Currently because of the hype and promotions/special packages for PHV Drivers. When the gimmicks run out, reality comes true, many would switch to full-fledge taxi or leave the industry. Already I heard that there are many PHV in the 2nd hand market, indicating supply exceeding demand. So, will Comfort Delgro make a comeback?

I think they park at some carparks or shopping malls and take a break, some go home and rest till peak hours then " chiong" ...... Once PHVs drivers get used to the trade, their " pattern" will come out. Cherry-picking customers, disappearing act before peak hours, switch off apps when not interested to drive etc, will sonner or later not just the " trade marks" of taxi uncles. |

Side-track, but just curious. Where does a grab/Uber driver go in between jobs? He can&rsquo t queue at taxi stands, he can&rsquo t pick up on the streets. If he cruise on the street, he&rsquo s wasting petrol or erp. If he park in the Car Park, he&rsquo s incurring costs.  | ||||

As well its fair that since they got less drivers. It should have less top management to manage the team.

Like what SMRT CEO said, companies have deep seated cultures. I' m sure the board of directors and the senior executive management knows, for what CDG (it' s employees and shareholding structure) is, what is possible and what is not. I think becoming like Grab, burning cashflow, requiring employees to work 25hrs a day paying them in shares (common in startups), and not issuing dividends, is near impossible for CDG.

Like equity investors got retail and substantial, venture capitalist also got many kinds. Some only come up with few hundred thousand dollars also call themselves angel investors, to me they are more like gamblers play tikam tikam. Facebook investors stuck with them for how long before making profit or IPO? You see Softbank and Didi Chuxing, the Uber-slayer, no up?

Today I attended a course conducted by JTC ACE, the Venture Capitalists told me they don't usually give startup beyond 5 years.... Grab in Singapore 4 years already, it has 12 more months to go..... Either it makes profit or it IPO, then I shall see how many people will subscribe its shares. PS : I am not aware that see Temasek participating in the latest fund raising by Grab, in Aug this year, it participated only in the first run. | ||||

Not sure about comfort . But if Singpost and SPH focus on what they have been doing in the past but not step into other biz, they might have been gone by now.

CDG is a transport company at its very core. Why should they do all these useless stuff and extend their reach into F& B when there is no need to ? They should focus and specialize on what they do best - which is transport. Just look at Singpost and SPH who didn' t want to focus on their own speciality and keep doing other stuff unrelated to their main specialization and couldnt make it

Grab is now a fintech company, taxi is their marketing tool.
CDG is now like a stall selling apples, and suddenly someone giving away free apples in front of it, how to compete? |

Cdg had the opportunity to do all these but just let it slip.
SINGAPORE - Grab users will now be able to use the app to pay for nasi padang, muffins and coffee. The ride-hailing operator's e-payment platform, GrabPay, was extended to 25 restaurants and hawker stalls in the Central Business District and the Bishan area on Wednesday (Nov 1), following its announcement in August. |

Not only will there be a allliance leading to a chiong prie of 30 c up, comfort will announce new incentives to come out.

Yes, you are right, Austrailia taxi coys is also defending their turf against Uber (Grab has not established its presence in Austrailia YET). But then again, Austrialn government, as far as I know, is known to be very protective of its local businesses, and their trade unions are stong, so running taxi business in Austraila I think is a little bit safer than in China, but than nothing is guaranteed. |

Some of us can still remember some years ago, Comfort invested quite a huge capital to start a taxi rental service in one of the Chinese cities. Expectedly, the business did not take off, but it&rsquo s the hirers who took off with the taxis, not paying nor returning the vehicles in the vast country. How to trace? Good thing, the business folded soon to avoid incurring huge losses. But of course Australia is different and it is understood the target Taxi group is Long established there. Then again, if it&rsquo s good and easy money, why would they let ComfortDelGro have a leg in it? I Guess worldwide, the Grab/Uber effect is felt everywhere. |
