When most investors exit, i accumulated 250k worth of stock in starhub today.I do expect the value to decrease further.However,i heard good news from the industry. A word of caution to dismiss starhub --its ENTERPRISE SERVICE profit has grown tremendously and based on industry news it has offset the fall in mobile service and has regain a new strategic pole in starhub management.Going to see a sharp increase in starhub prices next week |

I agree wih you on the point of SingTel as you make. Whether its shares goes higher I have doubts as earnings not looking great...steady but not really growing. As for Starhub/M1 a question I keep bouncing of my head is whether before long they try and merge...rather than fight each other with new competition will they merge to be bigger fish? Do not jump to fast as not saying will happen or if does happen tomorrow but with the recent MOU they signed I wonder if they will try and progressively get more and more into bed together some time in future.

There will not be winner when additional operTors are added in a small country.
2 Reason for SingTel to be excluded, market is bullish mode and SingTel is diversified with business out of Singapore. StarHub and m1, are bounced with too oversold in a bull market, before or after result release, back to same worry, this is made use by Traders for a beautiful pump and dump. It may go even lower than 2.7-2.8 with market worry.

In wake of M1 results Starhub seems to be the loser and Singtel the winner...1 down 1 up...may get resistance at 2.94..if falls through that then look to 2.7-2.8 as you say...may be worth a gamble at that point...

Starhub q1 & q3 2016 (% +) , which is different from M1. Using M1 to compare to Starhub is essentially incorrect.
As starhub is oversold, rebounce in future is highly possible. Q4 2016 may record (% +) also. |

share buybacks if used correctly, is powerful. Share bought back and kept as treasury shares do not actually have any added value anyway. If company can use sharebuy backs to break 52 wk high, its good. If used to defend the share price, not so sure. See what noble has done previously, incur so much money to buyback, wasted.. |

Panic sell currently happens for small herd investors.
However,good to buy in at 2.98-3.00,in fact investment banks are buying in based on market data.Share buyback seems to be happening now.Prices likely to appreciate tomorrow. |

If that is the case, it will be double blow on both telcos, selling down twice in a row, once for own financial results and another time for the other telco' s financial results. This really shows that investors are adverse to any decrease in earnings reported. Any drop in earnings reported most of the time will trigger selling of the shares. If the incumbent telocs earnings for this year continues to be lucklustre either stagnant at current levels or decrease some more, there is still more room for share prices to remain depressed at current levels or go down more especially if coupled with any positive news of development from the 4th telco TPG Telecom on their debut this year. It is just so sentiment driven when comes to movement of share prices. It is not a gloom and doom situation for the incumbents but definitely their share prices will come under pressure from any negative news affecting them this year.

Starhub will be announcing its last quarter 4Q 2016 and full year results on next week Fri (3 Feb) after close of market trading hours. I am speculating that the 4Q and full year 2016 results may not be that promising compared to 2015. That is why it releases its results on a Friday after market trading hours to soften the selling impact on its share price. However, this is just my speculation only as most of the time when companies choose to announce results on Fridays after market trading hours, their financial results are usually not very good. Of course, there are good financial results of companies that have been announced on Fridays after market trading hours too, just that I have observed more companies having worser financial results announced on Fridays than better results. We shall see next Friday if my speculation is correct. |

if the future of telco is not providing mobile services, and rather data services, what is the future like? Telcos are trading at expensive levels now, as they have yet to figure out a way to fit into the new environment, with many ppl finding quality alternative services through internet. It' s very expensive to change the existing infrastructure and systems that the telcos have already set up. With more free wifi arounds, and people expectation of wifi being FREE in all areas in future, it looks like the telcos have to find a new way to milk us. The urge of buying discounted handsets through mobile contracts bundled, is starting to fade off it seems. |
