I doubt so. Sia is functioning well and doesn't affect citizens as much as smrt. No reason to take it private.

This one is   just for collecting fat dividend due to gain from lower jet fuel and expensive oil hedge expiring. Declining revenue and yield but profit jumped on bigger drop in operating cost. Soon sg gov would privatisate sia to improve service quality and extend airline coverage through lowering fares. |

NOL, SMRT, Tigerair all directly or indirectly delisted as staying listed no longer served it purpose to raise capital. The next and last temasek had over 50%stake to go might be SIA, best time to delist it as share price stuck in narrow range . Can cheap cheap offer 1x book value to delist since share price stagnant for so long plus sia is cash cow differ from other with high debt. The end is near for all temasek controlled transportation stocks  |

Fund managers selling to get cash for yearend fund payout, oct is boring low volume and lot of cash out by bb. After this week selling should die down as we are close to us election and sia half yearly result in end oct. Lot of share buyback would pop to support share before result out. Net profit should be boosted with new lower oil hedge with reduced revenue, dividend might be boost to pass fuel saving to investor. Dollar average mine portfolio sincs sep today got some to further lower breakeven , today selling quite big so good time to buy in. Investing and not trading so it all good as oil remain stable at 50 |

Fall in SIA&rsquo s passenger traffic is bad news for SATS, SIA Engineering
By:
Benjamin Cher
![]()   SINGAPORE (16 Sept): SIA&rsquo s surprise decline in passenger traffic is leading UOB Kay Hian to cut profit forecasts by 22% while issuing a &ldquo maintain market weight&rdquo call on the aviation sector. This weak performance has implications for SATS and SIA Engineering&rsquo s earnings if traffic through Changi airport is weakened, says UOB Kay Hian in Friday report led by lead analyst K Ajith. The analyst is recommending a &ldquo sell&rdquo call on SIA Engineering while suggesting investor top-slice holdings on SATS. Ajith notes that the surprise decline in passenger traffic and carriage &ndash 6.8% and 5.5% respectively &ndash is SIA&rsquo s weakest August growth numbers in four years, with regional carrier SilkAir also posting a 2% on-year decline. While he rules out the Zika outbreak as a factor for the decline, there is uncertainty if the weak demand is due to competitive factors or general slowdown in traffic. Load factors for SIA suffered the steepest decline in more than three year of 5.6%, despite flat capacity growth, with Europe showing the greatest decline of 8%. SIA has attributed this decline to softer demand in a competitive landscape, with year to date passenger load factors lower at 78% compared to a forecasted 79.2%. The factors of increased competition, falling demand and capacity additions by Chinese carriers to Australia seems to suggest a potential turning point for SIA, Ajith notes. Forecasts for SIA&rsquo s profit for FY17 are now expected to hit $485 million, 42% lower than the general estimate of $831 million.   SIA&rsquo s decline has implications for both SATS and SIA Engineering as well, Ajith notes. SIA&rsquo s weaker passenger throughput could lead to lower unit meals for SATS. &ldquo If Changi Airport growth numbers slow down as expected, we believe there will be a downside risk to our and consensus earnings estimates,&rdquo says Ajith. UOB Kay Hian is recommending investors to top-slice holdings on SATS and buy between $4.10 and $4.20. SIA Engineering could also be negatively impacted, as it derives 66% of its revenue from SIA, with line maintenance holding the highest margins. &ldquo If SIA cuts capacity in response to weaker loads, this could impact SIAEC&rsquo s line maintenance revenue,&rdquo says Ajith. For SIA, UOB Kay Hian has lowered the target price to $10 from $10.20 with the suggested entry price of $9.00. Shares of SIA closed at $10.49, shares of SIA Engineering closed at $3.80 and SATS closed at $4.88. |

OK time to start looking at SQ again.............DYODD.Empty seats: Singapore Airlines' passenger carriage dropped 6.8%Poor demand prompted a system-wide decline. The country&rsquo s flag carrier went through a slightly turbulent month of August as its passenger load factor (PLF) dropped 5.2ppt to 79.7%. Singapore Airlines (SIA) revealed its passenger carriage in August 2016 went down 2.9% compared to last year, while capacity inched up 3.6%. &ldquo Singapore Airlines' systemwide passenger carriage declined by 6.8% against a 0.3% decrease in capacity year-on-year. Consequently, PLF fell 5.6 percentage points to 80.0%.&rdquo SIA said. SIA admitted it&rsquo s moving towards headwinds as PLF declined across all regions due to softer passenger demand. The competitive landscape continues to remain challenging and promotional activities will continue in relevant markets. Meanwhile, SilkAir&rsquo s systemwide passenger carriage dove 2.0% YoY, compared to a 5.3% expansion in capacity. PLF also dipped 5.2 percentage points to 71.0%. &ldquo Growth in passenger carriage for East Asia and Pacific, and West Asia regions lagged behind capacity growth, resulting in a 5.6 percentage point and 4.1 percentage point decrease in PLF respectively. Scoot' s systemwide passenger carriage rose 52.8% on a full year basis. Capacity increased 61.8% on back of additional aircrafts totaling the fleet to eleven from seven previously. PLF, however, decreased by 4.8 percentage points to 80.4%. Tigerair' s systemwide passenger carriage declined 7.0% year-on-year compared to a 3.6% reduction in capacity. PLF decreased by 2.9 percentage points to 82.2%. Cargo load factor (CLF) was 1.0 percentage points higher, with growth in cargo traffic of 8.6% exceeding capacity increase of 6.8%. &ldquo All route regions showed improvement in CLF except for West Asia and Africa, with demand outpacing capacity changes,&rdquo the airline added.  |
