Looks like properties are not doing too bad.  CES paid only abt 57% per sq ft ppr of it' s recent exec condo site win in Fernvale.  Although the sites and housing types are not exactly comparable, CES shd have considerable leeway to pricing power for  its Fernvale project to sell well with a decent profit.

MCC Land tops 15 bids for site in Potong Pasir

A 99-year leasehold commercial and residental site next to Potong Pasir MRT station has attracted a whopping 15 bids.

The highest one, from MCC Land (Singapore), was about S$471.6 million, which works out to S$775.17 per square foot per plot ratio (psf ppr).

MCC Land is a unit of Chinese state-owned enterprise Metallurgical Corporation of China (MCC Group).

Its top bid at the tender was 2.4 per cent above the next highest offer of S$756.73 psf ppr by Best Desire Investments. The lowest bid, from Tennessee Investments, was just a tad above S$401 psf ppr.

Thot I read in BT yesterday or this morning that no of container liners has bottomed, but tonnage capacity has increased.  Hope this signals the beginning of the end of the over-capacity.  Also, BDI up again.  Is this why NOL share price is becoming more bullish?

BDI has been steady over the last few days.  If it continues to head north, hope it' d be indicative of overcapacity receding and help firm freight rates.  Then NOL' s fortunes may improve.

Expectations are that CES will achieve bumper profit for FY14.  Add the greater profit  visibility over the next two yrs, with the Fernvale tender win, and the support of moe share buy backs by the co at higher price to the picture and you have it --- share price is gonna head  high up north.

I thought DBSS' TP has been 60c for smee time already.  Anyway, a lot of times, shares do not reach their TP within the horizon stipulated.  Eg, DBSS' TP for Sembmarine has been 4.80 for a long time. But look at the pathetic company and share price performance for more than 7 mths now, it has hardly ever touched 4.15.

Correct me if I' m wrong, and pardon me if I appear to ridicule.    Seems to me that we are putting out views here as if we cld influence Uncle Kwek to divest Xinfei.      For all we know HLA  may have a hidden agenda and may see Xinfei as a strategic part of their business in the long run, which may be why they are holding on to a strategic stake in Thakral too.   In the 2Q result annoncement they had mentioned that part of Xinfei' s  slump in sales is due to the current downturn in the PRC property market.  Also, if my recollections serve me well, I thought there was an offer (seemed an atrractive one too) by another party within the PRC for Xinfei some yrs back, whcih had helped propel HLA share to dizzy heights.  But HLA refused to sell.

Being vested in HLA, I too hope they' d get rid of Xinfei which wld likely help improve their bottomline immediately.  Alas, it looks like it' d be much easier for us to dump HLA instead.

There are probably many other stocks trading  some way  below  RNAV too.  And despite all the recent hype abt privatisation of some of them, only a few have materialised.  Anyway, for GL,  recall that an attempt was made by uncle Quek to take it private at 1.20/share some yrs back.  It did not succeed.  These days, maybe he is accummulating as much as he can on the cheap so that if he eventually does try to  make anothre offer at a higher price, his total cost of taking  GL private wld still be cheap.  But that means his next attempt may not come so soon.

Qn is why is NOL lagging behind others in turning the ship around.  By the time it does, maybe others will be out of sight.

sgng123      ( Date: 11-Aug-2014 16:29) Posted:

OOCL reported 180 mil profit for 1H14, another good example of cost saving maximisation by having a higher load facor and newer fuel efficient ship. Lower revenue but higher volume make up for it. NOl is moving in that direction but u need t ogive it a few quarters to complete it overhaul. It takes time for a ship as huge as NOl to change course and headed for the right direction but it is making progress every quarter. Lot of bro here in forum just lose patience cos it take like donkey years for ship to move lol, but remember this is a american liner got lot of labor union backing worker, so to make changes take time it not like european/asian where the CEo got the ultimate say and cut cost immediately. American needtime to adjust so be patience and wait out the recession.

I think those recommendations have been around for months.  In fact, DBSS had even raised it' s TP to 3.42 a few mths ago.  But price continue to stagnate or sag.  After the result announcement, price was pumped up for half a day and then dumped, closing lower than prior to announcement.

Could you share more about the Brazil portfolio, something interesting.

This counter is poised to move up with at least four analysts recommending with a TP of 3.3 average, at current price of 2.75, it would be a 55 cents gain.

Accumulate when the price drops down.  It' s a gem!

brother Wan Si Tong, thanks for the post.

Look like the future of GLP will be brighter with big China GLC (Bank of China and China Life) backing and the new acquired portfolio Brazil. The Brazil portfolio is a sweetheart deal from Temasek with accretive yield of > 9% and potential for a REIT spinoff. $2.73 is the next support and a stronger support at $2.66. Will accumulate when see this price again!!

Overvalued today at current profit levels.  Yet it was trading at almost double  this price at lower financial performance levels at one time.  What is valuation?  CKs decide.

enjoylife77      ( Date: 10-Aug-2014 11:24) Posted:

Do note that Genting have 12 billion shares. At current price and reference to last Q earnings per share. it is over valued.  Anyway 14 Aug  we will have the  latest Q result.

It is only the program buying that is currently supporting the price.

There may be some truth that they may have given an edge to a consortium with local content. Such a practice is being adopted by many other countries too, objective merits or de-merits notwithstanding.

If profit from MBS provides any clue,  GS is  likely to show credible results.  4-500 mil may seem optimistic though.  Apparently excuse to sell down in the last 2-3 days is due to poor sentiment  arising from  lacklustre  profits in Macau casinos, blamed on lower spins from mid-tier PRC rollers.  Seems casino stocks in HK are also down.  Qn is why is Genting HK not facing such selling pressure over the same period?  Just wondering if CKs may be taking advantage of Macau to force down  GS' price to collect on the cheap, especially if it is true (and insiders already know) that GS' result will be good.  Seems a dirty game.

I hope on Monday, it will drop further! I guess this quarter result will be like 400-500 million profit like that! Dividend of this stock is bad! So can only play on the price movement lol

Also, margin seems to be squeezed a bit.

RoundRound      ( Date: 08-Aug-2014 09:47) Posted:

WHY?
1. The recent run up in price probably factored in this Quarter earning.
2. Their year-to-date order book is not that stellar.
3. Lastly, their primary client Petronas in Malaysia is cutting back on expansion of its offshore fleet.

Even if they peg at 1.50, price will still go down.  Such solid result ... and potentially better qtrs ahead, with profits from two dev projects to come, share price is still being pressed down.  Market is in full control by CKs.

Looks like EPS may be in mid-teens.  Shareholders cld probably look forward to 5c/share or even more if full-year profit, including all the property dev profit recogniton after TOP of the two projects mentioned in its press release end up at closer to 20c/share.
