in fact that is fantastic, flush out the short term players.
do you realised temasek is abang and there are many adik that always go along such vanguard, norges, blackrock and so forth
they are holding major %. as more more value players come onboard, scm will be different.
just have to watch

market is for the better,
scm has appeared as hot stock, cannot always depend on temasek, value pickers are coming in. it is always supply and demand
scm is ready to take on more projects and many projects are looking for the builders. cheers

If they accumulate more than 5% of the shares, they have to declare on who is the substantial owner? Can this also be gamed?

The Trading game
Lesson 101: How to acquire more shares in a desired company at the cheap?

First, depending on the size of the company you want to corner, you must make sure you have the adequate financial muscle. If the market cap of the company is $20 million, most small-time speculators can play the game. If it is say $2 billion market cap, you require much greater financial power.

Second, create or rope in or collude with 2 or more trading accounts/ partners. Perhaps one originating from London (A), one from US (B) and maybe another one from Hong Kong (C).

Finally, the game plan start selling to one another at progressive lower price. For example, if the bid offer is 15.3 and 15.4 cents and there are not too many lots queuing at 15.2 and 15.1, " A" could be asked to queue, say 10 million lots at 15 cents, and then B would sell down to A, clearing those small quantities at 15.2 and 15.1 on the way.

This cycle can then be repeated numerous times daily to create the impression that many are willing to sell at lower prices. However, A, B and C are actually accumulating as long as there are more people selling than buying.

In the case of SMM, the accumulators or short sellers are trying to coax SCI shareholders to let go of their " free" SMM shares at the cheap by pushing up SCI share price at the same time. (14.5 * 4.9 + 132 = 204). How much of the daily 100+ million shares traded are genuine transactions is hard to tell.
The game would be over when the selling from SCI retail shareholders dry up in the next couple of weeks/ months.
At some point, when the news flow for SMM turns positive, these same manipulators would play the reserve game. By then, I would assumed that they would have successfully accumulated a sizable SMM position at very attractive prices.
For Temasek, It could be argued that they did not lose anything as they are holding on to all their SMM shares that they know is intrinsically worth 29 cents or more. The eventual real losers are the SMM minority shareholders that did not or could not subscribe to the rights and to a lesser degree, the SCI retail shareholders that were coaxed into letting go their " free" SMM shares at dirt cheap prices.

Thanks to the accumulators or manipulators' effort, I am able to buy another bunch at 14.4 cents today. Hope to add on a bit more in the coming weeks/ months if the game is still on. Stay tuned!

Why 僧多粥少 ? Sorry to say this but it is not about keeping job. It is consolidation and removing overlaps. With same market size and lower net operating cost after the optimisation and also the 2 companies need not compete against each other and wasting presales efforts.

Asking a newbie question here, was trying to find some discussion on scm kom merger but the number of posts are huge... please pardon me if this had been discussed before.

I see many posts about merging of scm and kom and it seems many are for the idea and that it may even lift the price of scm. I' m just trying to understand better why? scm not doing well, hence being severed from sci. Similarly kom also not doing well and hence many are also hoping it to be sold of from kepcorp. No doubt merging these 2 is good for the business since 僧多粥少 , but how can it good for scm, or kom, by combining 2 underperforming business together?
