That' s new to me. With Japan going QE and the team comprising Japan' s JGC Corp, it' s easy to borrow at very low cost. Their partnership is pretty strategic, I must say.

Extract from BT 6 Nov 14

[CHONGQING] The global shipping market is unlikely to see a recovery in the next two years due to continuing oversupply of vessels, the chairman of China' s largest shipping group said on Wednesday.

Ma Zehua, the chairman of China Ocean Shipping Group (Cosco), told reporters on the sidelines of a conference in Chongqing that the firm was focusing on cost control, securing long-term customers and expanding in emerging markets, such as South America and the Middle East, to counter the slump.

As part of a recently-announced government push to reform the country' s shipping industry, the company will also soon announce partnerships with other large Chinese firms, he said, but declined to provide details.

Cosco Group is one of China' s largest government-controlled conglomerates, and is the juggernaut of the country' s shipping industry. It controls more than 800 vessels which cover more than 1,600 ports, and manages six listed firms including China Cosco and Cosco Corporation.

Today Sembmarine results press release didn' t seem to mention abt any issues published in the Upstream article.  So, is it accurate or coy not disclosing info?

" According to a recent article from Upstream, SembMarine' s yard in Brazil, Estaleiro Jurong Aracruz, may be on the verge of losing the modules construction and integration contracts for the P-68 and P-71 FPSOs. These contracts were secured in Aug-12 at a total value worth US$674m. The article highlighted that the project has failed to gain momentum and SembMarine is also facing delays with environmental permitting and problems on detailed engineering for the FPSO modules. Upstream indicated that the problems are so serious that Petrobras is considering cancelling the integration contract and moving the work elsewhere."

But supply of vessels continue to  outpace demand (see extract below from Cosco' s result announcement yesterday), any profitability will still be capped, cheap oil price notwithstanding.

In dry bulk shipping, the Group expects the positive impact from any rebound in BDI to be

subdued as expansion in the global bulk carrier fleet continues to outpace demand.

earlybird14      ( Date: 04-Nov-2014 16:25) Posted:

About time to change my view on this stock. Oil price has dropped to 78 dollars and seem like oil price is going to stay or below this level for minimum 6months time till next year summer. If the oil price dropping doesn' t create an oil crisis at begin of next year to affect the shipping volume, highly likely NOL will turn profitable in next quarter and has sustantial good profit in 1st quarter next year.

KIV on this stock and put into watchlist. Selling the APL logistic may give NOL a lift back to 1 dollar. Based on present oil price level and freight rate, all players in the market surely can be profitable.

SPOT rates for shipping containers from Asia to northern Europe jumped 88.2 per cent to US$1,312 per TEU in the week ended on Friday, according to the Shanghai Containerised Freight Index (SCFI), Reuters reports.

The increase reversed the weekly declines that have lasted the past 12 weeks and saw rates drop to a yearly low of $697 per TEU, well below the widely accepted $1,000 per TEU break even point.

Maersk Line, the global market leader with nearly 600 container vessels and part of Danish oil and shipping group AP Moller-Maersk, has already announced a $900 rate hike effective November 1.

In the week to Friday, rates increased 51.3 per cent from Asia to ports in the Mediterranean, but fell 5.7 per cent to ports on the US west coast and were down by 1.7 per cent to ports on the US east coast.

In a place where everyone nods his/her head to transparency, I think the company ought to have come out already to clarify the article, unless everyone else is aware except them, which is unlikely.

COSCO Corp (Singapore) Ltd, part of one of China' s largest shipbuilding groups, said on Monday that its receivables at the end of the third quarter had soared 62 per cent from the end of 2013 to the highest in at least 11 years, while its quarterly net profit jumped 69 per cent from a year earlier. COSCO Corp, a Singapore-listed subsidiary of Chinese state-owned maritime conglomerate China Ocean Shipping (Group) Company, said higher trade and other receivables, at S$4.7 billion (US$3.7 billion), reflected a rise in construction contracts in the marine engineering segment and an increase in advances paid to suppliers. COSCO reported a net profit of S$7.1 million on revenue of S$1.2 billion for the quarter. (Source: The Business Times)

This is actually what I gather from reading various articles.  GLP' s share price seem to be heavily controlled.  Don' t know if anyone recalls abt a yr ago when the share got sold down from 2.70+ to 2.50+.  Some analysts then gave the reason that worries abt the weakness of the RMB was an over-reaction.  Then within a few months, it got pumped up to 2.90+ even though the RMB, relative to the US$ had remained relatively unchanged.  More recently, when the share price was depressed again, I recall reading that worries that the  valuation of some of their properties might be impacted by the weakness of the Brazilian currency might be the issue.  So, when the price seemed to jump suddenly, I cynically wrote that the potential currency issues had disappeared all of a sudden.

Pesonally, I think this is a solid stock.  But I quitted recently cos I felt that movements in the share price was being controlled too much.  And I' m one who does not believe that share price movements are spontaneous -  to me, it' s only that   the  degree of apparent manipulation varies.

China HX is but one of many SChips which seemed to be able to find nowhere else to .... You have learned yr lesson, but will the people who openly and warmingly welcome them in ever? Or, will the people who vet these aspirant cons (and I' d even be so damning as to pronounce that some slip themselves in with devious intentions from the onset, having seen how seemingly easily the pioneers in this con business were able to get away with murder) be more guarded in opening the doors to them? Or will other seemingly naive investors ever be disciplined enough to say never to them? Every time, when I read enthusiastic posts and ravings in SJ abt Ships, it never fails to strike me as to why people never seem to learn. Amazing. But I suppose, it' s human that avarice rules everywhere ......

Getting involved in this counter is the most disgusting experience I' ve had with the SGX and S-chips. Nobody has taken responsibility of the unethical behaviour of the company and its management. The management of this company is total bunch of scumbags who cheat shareholders without conscience. The moment the share was suspended I learned my lesson and completely wiped all hopes of getting my money back and just moved on. I am really happy that since that experience, I have never touched any S-chip and has been profitable every year. To other shareholders of this disgusting company, don' t expect anything and realise the fact that whatever they give you will be peanuts as management has already milked whatever they can for themselves. My expectations is Zero from whatever bs things they do, so I will never let this stupid company screw me again. I hope it goes straight to hell.

Best of all, SGX will be relaxing whatever useless rules and regulations it has and make it easier for lowlife S-chips to be listed here. Those financial crooks in China must be laughing and rubbing their hands and preparing themselves to skin more gullible suckers called Singaporean investors. So stay tuned to lots of suspended S-chips. Thanks SGX for your greed. smiley

Don' t think they did a placement of 200 mil shares in 2013.  From the SGX website, there was a one-for-one rights issue which doubled the issued shares from 1023 to 2046 mil.

Right one for one,   at least one got chance to buy right.   CF made a placement of over 200 mil shares plus others in 2013 to raise money for Copeinca.   If Copeinca can bring better earnings,   it is a good thing.
