Why don' t some ah kongs come forward to buy over all the coys that are languishing so pathetically below valuation listed in this country n close the equity market for good?  Then those vested can probably get a better value for their shares and go for a long holiday to de-stress.

So, if my interpretation of what is stated in the pre-offer doc is correct, each share is worth abt 54c.  Hope some brothers/sisters here can help verify this.  And ....  are we optimistic of a competing offer to bring  abt a px war?

From what I' ve read, apart from the offer px of 46.6c, there is a distribution of shares in its Taiwan ops.  Shareholders can either opt for the share distribution of cash valuing each (new) share at 4.05c.  On top of that, there seems to be a USD15 mil available for distribution as well, which if my calculation is not wrong is nearly a cent a share.

Why at LEAST $0.50? From the report, it seems to be buying at $0.466 per share.

Xinfei n Airwell too.  If they can turn these two around, HLA will boom.  Yuchai is doing well, but with a little help cld possibly produce spectacular results, hopefully.  If every segment of their PRC ops improve, who knows, HLA cld go back to being a $4+ coy.

If successful, then shdn' t have much downside, right.  I mean if a firm offer is made at => 45.2 can' t envisage huge unloading below that, can we?

Peru fishmeal px closed Nov at US2204,> 10% on Oct 14 closing px of 1985.  If Dec fishing season burnt, maybe px cld sky-rocket.  Qn is how much inventory of anchovy does CF  still hold to turn into fishmeal.

Report is so confusing .... haha ... guess it is good to wait and see

Fishmeal players expect Peru anchovy recovery by first season of 2015

However,  producers canvassed by  Undercurrent  believe the poor stock situation, which has sent  fishmeal prices soaring  while stocks in China and Peru are running low, is shortlived.

&ldquo New data released and findings on sizes indicate that complete normalization of anchovy stock will take place in October next year, although we don&rsquo t know about the volumes,&rdquo Tasa&rsquo s Speziani said.

Peru fishmeal prices stay high as bids could climb further for remaining stock

Hyflux is like the Creative Tech of yesteryear.  Patented menbrane n Sound Blaster way overtaken by newer n better technologies n, yes, easily replicated.  Trouble is they have no answers to the challenge.

sgtrader101      ( Date: 11-Dec-2014 22:59) Posted:

Lets look at hyflux,

1) sold their building and on lease-back.
2) water technology easily replicated
3) heavy investment overseas but no returns yet
4) won zero major contract recently
5) revenue and profit dropping

You get the pt, just not looking too bright for this ctr at the moment and not getting any brighter in the near future.

Used to be a shining star, now its a faded lost star.

As mentioned, there are much cheaper and better water stocks in sgx and investors are aware of this.

Sharemaker      ( Date: 11-Dec-2014 13:45) Posted:

Their revenues, profitability are getting lower and this counter was hyped up previously due to Mahattir threats and also our govt support it to counter this threat. Hyflux has not clinched any major orders for a long time. And having sold assets like building normally mean a company is desperate for cash to keep it business going on. Similar to NOL. It is not likely to command a premium anymore and there are better water stock like Hankore, SIIC, United Envech. The only thing is waiting for buyover like STATs or any major investor interest to bring it up. At this stage, nothing seem to be in this direction.

No, don' t think Singtel will try again.  They wld have learned by now not to attempt eating up any politically connected or ' nationalist' stock.  Time Engineering, HK Tel (n for that matter, SGX' s attempt to swallow up ASX) wld have been valuable lessons for them.  It' s politically untenable.

Singapore Exchange unaware of reason for ' unusual' trading in own shares

[SINGAPORE] Singapore Exchange Ltd had to take the rare step on Tuesday of issuing an announcement about unusual trading activity in its own shares.

The bourse noted that more than 8 million of its shares had changed hands during the day, more than four times the 200-day daily average of 1.5 million. Its share price climbed 3.4 per cent to close at S$7.60, its highest since August 2013.

" The company is not aware of any information not previously announced concerning the company, its subsidiaries or associated companies which, if known, might explain the unusual trading activity," it said in a statement.

The exchange' s equity business is under pressure due to falling volumes and technical problems.

Last Wednesday a software error led to the exchange delaying the start of stock trading by three and a half hours, prompting criticism from the Monetary Authority of Singapore.

Correct me if I' m wrong.  I thought under the Code of Takeovers, if he buys from OCBC/GE the => 30% to trigger a taskeover, the price he pays OCBC is the takeover price.  If he then increases his offer to the rest of the shareholders, he' d have to pay the difference to OCBC/GE.

Kyoto2008      ( Date: 09-Dec-2014 19:33) Posted:

Possibly the big buyers are waiting for the OCBC/GE lot of shares to be bought. To push up the price now wd make the overall cost of takeover higher. Eg now the price $2.90. If OCBC let go at 10% above mkt price, the offer to rest of shareholders is $3.19. Suppose the buyer needs to coax remaining shareholders by offering another 20% ie $3.82. Hence they need to pa 3.82 to 64% of shareholders. If however price now shoot $3.30, this means buyer pays $3.63 to OCBC and $4.36 to 64% of shareholders. The final scenario played out cd be the latter as there wd be a scramble the moment the OCBC lot of 36% Ue shares are sold to Ah Chai. The sale of UE E&C has just passed shareholders' approval. Likely action shd begin soon.
