Read carefully: the 2 contracts announced not fully confirmed. Both pending FID and final confirmation. KC is quite desperate to get whatever leverage they can find for the merger discussion.

Actually no one is right or wrong here. If you believe in SCM and I saw in POEMS, the analyst has got a target price of 8.9cts for it, which is a premium over the current price of 8.5cts, then go ahead and buy it or keep yr share dun sell.
But if you no longer have confident in this counter and think your money can be better invest in another counter, then sell it and use the money otherwise, there is no need to talk bad about the counter too, as many here are strong believer and supporter in this counter and it may start a WAR here. That is my take. I just sold all my holding and reinvested in another counter, having kept SCM for over few months and see ni improvement so far, but yes it may start to move after I sold.

All the initiatives like 3D printing of spare parts and bubble tech (below) are helping SCM bring in about S$600mil in  R& U (repair and upgrade) revenue in 2021. With elevated shipping rates and comeback of the cruise industry, 2022 R& U revenue (including LNG conversion projects) might be closer to $1billion.

Retrofit of air lubrication technology achieves verified performance of 6.6% net savings during initial testing.

Silverstream Technologies' air lubrication system, the Silverstream System, has reportedly delivered 6.6% fuel and emissions savings during testing on the Shell-chartered 170,000 cbm LNG carrier Methane Patricia Camila.

The Silverstream System is designed to enable fuel and emissions efficiencies by producing a thin layer of microbubbles along the full flat bottom of the vessel, reducing frictional resistance between the water and the hull. The System was successfully retrofitted on the 2010-built LNGC during its October 2020 planned dry docking at the Sembcorp Marine Admiralty Shipyard in Singapore.

The project was installed within the planned dry docking period, and was delivered on budget. From design through to installation the System was reviewed and approved by ABS in accordance with their guidance note for Air Lubrication Technology.

Some spares. if got $$$ , also can't buy. 3D printing as the name suggest, it is like the printer that we use. With design send to the 3D printing, it straight away fabricate out. Instead of days, weeks or months, it may take hours. The problem with 3D printing is quality heavily compromised. Instead of having 3D printing compromise quality, it improve quality. This a game changer. cheaper, faster and better. Usually for such, talk is cheap. But it is validated by their own customer. Then, i can foresee SCM road to automated factory where the whole rig to be printed is possible. SCM nature of job is not mass manufacturing. They customized. They will make $$$ with using 3D printing Actually, having validation by their own customer is a better news than contract wins

ABS approves 3D printed spare parts after successful testing on board an oil tanker

ABS, ConocoPhillips Polar Tankers, Sembcorp Marine and 3D Metalforge complete landmark &ldquo additive manufacturing&rdquo project

Singapore, 24 November 2021: ABS, ConocoPhillips Polar Tankers, Sembcorp Marine Ltd and 3D Metalforge has taken a significant and tangible step to make additive manufacturing (AM) &ndash also known as 3D printing &ndash a reality in the marine industry through a joint development project. Parts fabricated by AM and installed on an oil tanker by Sembcorp Marine six months ago have been validated to be in good working condition.

This pioneering AM project started in February 2021 with the fabrication and lab-testing of functional additive manufactured parts, which were then installed on board the oil tanker  Polar  Endeavour. After six months in operation, all parts have since been retrieved and inspected by the vessel&rsquo s crew, followed by a remote survey by ABS.

Mr Patrick Ryan, ABS Senior Vice President, Global Engineering and Technology, said, &ldquo We are delighted with the performance of the parts and the successful completion of the project. It&rsquo s an important step forward for a technology that certainly has a significant role to play in the future of the marine industry. ABS is committed to ensuring these types of parts are introduced without compromising safety.&rdquo

Additive Manufacturing or 3D printing is the fabrication of parts by adding material layer by layer. It means products and components can be fabricated locally or potentially on board ships and offshore assets, shrinking the supply chain and lead times for specialised and complex parts, introducing new efficiencies driven by design innovation, reduced manufacturing time, and improvements in parts availability.

Traditional parts used in shipbuilding and repair are manufactured via casting or forging techniques. For this project, the consortium utilised AM to fabricate three types of parts that meet or may even exceed conventionally manufactured products in terms of quality. ABS has now approved these additive manufactured spare parts after successful onboard testing on an oil tanker.

The three parts were:

  • Gear set and gear shaft for boiler fuel supply pump: The gear set comprises a drive gear which rotates the idle gear connected to the pump which creates a suction force to fill the void with fluid. The shaft connects the impeller to the motor/engine, which is the power source.
  • Flexible coupling for marine sanitation devices pump: The flexible coupling connects a driver shaft to a driven shaft for power transmission. The two shafts include metal components for two coupling sleeves and non-metallic components for coupling spider which permit misalignment adjustments.
  • An ejector nozzle for fresh water generator which increases the fluid velocity to transform high static pressure into velocity pressure.

Mr Robert Noyer, ConocoPhillips Polar Tankers Engineering Superintendent, said, &ldquo The superior performance of these parts in service is a testament to the rigorous engineering, manufacturing and post-production testing put in place by the team involved with this venture. We look forward to future opportunities to support our vessels with this technology.&rdquo

Sembcorp Marine Head of Research & Development, Mr Simon Kuik, said, &ldquo The success of this project augurs well for the adoption of AM in the marine industry. Through AM, Sembcorp Marine is able to customise parts for our customers and reduce material wastage and remove supply chain inefficiencies. This augments our value proposition as a one-stop innovative solutions provider for the offshore, marine and energy industries and affirms our sustainability ethos.&rdquo

Goods chance Cambo project is going to be approved soon.

OGUK: UK Must Allow New Oil and Gas Fields or Risk Surging Bills and Shortages

November 22, 2021

OGUK, the trade body representing interests of the UK&rsquo s offshore oil and gas industry, has urged the government to allow new oil and gas fields, &ldquo or risk surging import bills and future shortages.&rdquo

The trade body said it was reacting after the debate over the Cambo offshore oil and gas field, planned 75 miles west of Shetland. It would deliver 170 million barrels of oil, plus some gas, over 20 years.

&ldquo This week Nicola Sturgeon [Scottish First Minister] joined environmental groups in suggesting such projects should not go ahead, citing concerns over climate change. The final decision rests with the UK government which has long recognized the need for secure energy supplies," OGUK said.  According to Siccar Energy, which acquired the Cambo licenses from OMV in 2017, Cambo is one of the largest undeveloped fields in the UKCS and will open up other prospects for potential development in the area.

" OGUK&rsquo s research shows, however, that the UK is already becoming highly reliant on other countries and has to import half its gas,&rdquo OGUK said Saturday.

It also cited the UK government&rsquo s trade figures which showed show that, in the year to June, the UK paid Norway £ 5.2 billion for gas plus £ 6.1 billion for crude oil Russia £ 524 million for gas and £ 3.2 billion for oil Qatar £ 675m for liquefied natural gas USA £ 2.8 billion for crude oil.

OGUK, which says the projects planned by its members are essential to maintain production and protect UK consumers during the planned transition to lower-carbon forms of energy, warned that if new projects like Cambo are not approved then UK production would plummet with gas output, for example, falling up to 75% by 2030. This would leave the UK increasingly reliant on imported energy, OGUK said.

Deirdre Michie, chief executive of OGUK, said: " The UK&rsquo s offshore oil and gas industry is committed to helping the UK government meet its ambitious net zero goals. We accept all the science around climate change and the need to cut emissions, but this transition must be managed.

&ldquo If we cut our own supplies of gas and oil faster than we can reduce demand then we will have to import more of what we need. Our import bills will go up without any reduction in emissions.

&ldquo That means we need to develop new oil and gas reserves simply to maintain domestic production

&ldquo These new projects will help protect consumers, supply the UK with lower-carbon energy, reduce our need for imports and support the 200,000 people working in the industry as it transitions to a greener low-carbon future.&rdquo

OGUK has also shared an infographic detailing why the UK needs new oil and gas fields. See below:

Sembcorp Marine Partners GE Renewable Energy&rsquo s Grid Solutions to Build State-of-the-art Electrical Transmission System for RWE Renewables

Sembcorp Marine makes further inroads into renewable energy sector

Singapore, 29 March 2021  &ndash Sembcorp Marine Ltd and GE Renewable Energy&rsquo s Grid Solutions have secured a contract from RWE Renewables, to supply the high voltage direct current (HVDC) electrical transmission system for the Sofia Offshore Wind Farm.

Located on Dogger Bank, 195 km off the north east coastline of UK in the central North Sea, Sofia spans an area of 593 km2. With a capacity of 1.4 gigawatt (GW) that will power the equivalent of nearly 1.2 million UK homes with clean and renewable energy, Sofia will be one of the largest wind farms in the world when completed.

Sembcorp Marine and GE Renewable Energy&rsquo s Grid Solutions began early design works for the project in July 2020, after being chosen as the preferred supplier of the HVDC electrical transmission system. The HVDC system represents Sofia&rsquo s second largest contract and is worth approximately £ 600 million (S$1.12 billion).

The contract work scope comprises the design, manufacture, installation, commissioning and maintenance of the offshore converter platform (OCP) and the onshore converter station (OCS), including all ancillary equipment. Sembcorp Marine&rsquo s scope of work includes the design, construction, installation and commissioning of the OCP.

The OCP, at the heart of the wind farm, comprises a 17,000-tonne topside and jacket foundation structure piled into the seabed 220 km from the nearest shore. It will be the most powerful and most remote OCP ever built.

Sven Utermö hlen, Chief Operating Officer Wind Offshore Global of RWE Renewables said: &ldquo Signing this contract with the consortium of GE&rsquo s Grid Solutions and Sembcorp Marine for the supply of Sofia&rsquo s HVDC electrical system reflects RWE&rsquo s strong commitment to innovation and to pushing the boundaries of what is capable within the sector. The 1.4GW Sofia project is our first to use the HVDC technology, which was selected to maximise the wind farm&rsquo s export capacity from a location so far from shore. We are delighted to be working with such a strong pairing on the delivery of this flagship project located on the remote Dogger Bank, in the middle of the North Sea.&rdquo

Mr Samuel Wong, Head of Sembcorp Marine Offshore Platforms said: &ldquo Sembcorp Marine is excited to work on this mega-project with GE Renewable Energy&rsquo s Grid Solution to support RWE Renewables&rsquo Sofia Offshore Wind Farm project to augment its supply of wind energy in the UK.&rdquo

Singapore' s Keppel Offshore & Marine has secured a contract from an undisclosed renewable energy company to build two offshore substations topsides (OSS) worth around S$110 million (around 73,4 million U.S. dollars).

Keppel O& M, through its subsidiary Keppel Fels, will be responsible for the engineering, procurement, construction, testing and commissioning for the topside modules of two OSS.

This excludes the OSS foundations, as well as certain electrical components to be provided by the client.

" It is scheduled to be completed in 2024 to be deployed in an offshore wind farm," Keppel Offshore & Marine said.

The company said that the contract would be on progressive payment milestones and will have neutral project cashflow.

Chris Ong, CEO of Keppel O& M, said, " We are pleased to secure this contract, which reflects Keppel O& M&rsquo s continuing pivot towards renewables and cleaner energy solutions. It is testament to Keppel O& M&rsquo s execution excellence, as well as our ability to deliver reliable, consistent, and quality solutions for the offshore wind industry.&rdquo

The Sofia HVDC convertor substation that Sembmarine is building at its Batam yard is about 4-5 times bigger than the above. Looks like the Singapore united yard is progressing well in the offshore windfarm space.  Green is the new gold.

UOB Kay Hian' s forecasted SCM 2021' s    pre-tax loss of $565mil and    Net loss of $963mil.  The differential of $398mil are provisions which you cannot claim tax credit until it is actualised.

Expecting SCM to be EBITDA positive in 2022.

Expecting SCM' s ending cash balance for 2021 to be $1.34 bil  and 2022 to be $1.2 bil.

I expect the actual numbers to be slightly better than the above.

The week before, during the sudden surge to 8.9 cents, I posted that it was likely to drop back to the 8.3/ 8.4 level. There are buying interest beneath this baby, but the " actual" buying is likely to start only when the news flow turn really positive. Until then, most of the volume is likely left hand sell to right hand type by the Shortist, nicknamed the Vampire Squid. They are likely the same people that shorted SPH all the way from $3+ to $1 previously.

Thanks, I am just one of the many shareholders that bought too early, did not foresee the 2nd rights issue coming and am sitting on a substantial paper loss despite subscribing quite a truckload of the 8 cents rights shares to average down.    cool  Now ending up with more SCM' s shares than all the directors and senior mgt combined.

Medium term, I am cautiously optimistic and expect it to march towards 20 cents before the merger is announced.

Yinson is the ONLY company bidding for this very complex project. They would get it as long as they meet petrobras' terms and demands.

With the supply chain tightening up quickly, most players like SBM offshore and Modec are not bidding unless terms are decent, as there is a high chance of cost overrun. Yinson is taking a high risk to accedpt Petrobras stringent terms, hoping to squeeze the China supply chain and other service providers to deliver cheap.

SINGAPORE: Singapore' s vaccinated travel lane (VTL) with India will start on Nov 29, with six designated flights  daily from Chennai, Delhi and Mumbai, said the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) on Sunday (Nov 21).

Applications for vaccinated travel passes (VTP) for short-term visitors and long-term pass holders from India will start on Nov 22 at 6pm Singapore time.

CAAS said on Sunday (Nov 21) that it had reached an agreement with the India' s Ministry of Civil Aviation on the resumption of scheduled commercial passenger flights between the two countries.

Airlines can also operate non-VTL flights between India and Singapore, although passengers on non-VTL flights will be subject to the prevailing public health requirements, CAAS said.  " CAAS understands that travellers are looking forward to the launch of the VTL and would like to assure travellers that there is no need to rush to apply for the VTP," the authority said.

Short-term visitors and long-term pass holders must apply for a VTP to enter Singapore under the VTL.

VTP applications for travellers from Indonesia and Malaysia will open on Nov 22 at 10am Singapore time.

Seems like SCM' s challenge of shortage of cheap skilled labour is going to be resolved very soon.
