President Vladimir Putin said peace talks with Ukraine are " at a dead end," vowing to continue Russia' s invasion.

There' s been no word of progress for days in video-link peace talks after Ukraine accused Russian troops of carrying out war crimes including killing unarmed civilians in Bucha and other towns in the north. Western leaders have called for international investigations of the deaths.

In his first public comments on the alleged atrocities, Putin first compared them to US attacks on cities like Raqqa in Syria and then called the Bucha claims " fake."

The more than seven-week offensive is going " according to plan," Putin said at a joint press conference at the Vostochny Cosmodrome in the Russian Far East with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.

Negotiations continued between the two sides by video link after the last in-person meeting in Istanbul on Mar 29. There' s been no public confirmation of talks this week. Putin accused Ukraine of backing off earlier concessions, but Kyiv' s public position has not changed and it blames Russia for the lack of progress.

Russia' s economy has withstood the West' s sanctions " blitzkreig," Putin said, citing the recovery of the rouble' s exchange rate. But he conceded that logistics and payment systems remain a weakness and the long-term impact of western limits could be more painful. The government is expecting an economic contraction of as much as 10 per cent this year, the worst in more than two decades.

Replacing Russian crude oil lost by a possible ban from the EU would be nearly impossible, OPEC Secretary General Mohammad Barkindo said today in a speech at a high-level meeting between OPEC and the EU was seen by Reuters.

OPEC wasn' t sugar-coating the harsh realities of the oil supply situation should the EU choose to ban imports of Russian crude oil in response to Russian President Vladimir Putin' s invasion of Ukraine.

" We could potentially see the loss of more than 7 million barrels per day (bpd) of Russian oil and other liquids exports, resulting from current and future sanctions or other voluntary actions. Considering the current demand outlook, it would be nearly impossible to replace a loss in volumes of this magnitude," the Secretary General said.

The EU, like others before it, implored OPEC to increase crude oil output. OPEC has thus far decided to stick to its agreed-upon oil production hikes of just 400,000 bpd on the grounds that the market issues are geopolitical and not fundamental&mdash and therefore beyond OPEC' s control.

The EU has not yet banned imports of Russian oil and gas, but new humanitarian rights issues have triggered an increased fervor in replacing potentially banned Russian barrels in an effort to choke off Russia' s income stream.

Russia' s crude oil shipments rebounded in the first week of April to the highest level so far this year, with Russia' s Q1 trade surplus hitting record levels as the prices of oil and gas continue to be elevated. While it has been noted that large Asian buyers such as India and China continue to import oil and gas from Russia, so does the EU.

Russia expects to earn $9.6 billion more in April from oil and gas than it did in March.

The United States Congress voted to ban the import of Russian crude oil, and to suspend normal trade relations with Russia, as the United States moves to increase its pressure on Russia after the invasion of Ukraine.

The bill to ban imports of Russian oil passed 100-0 in the Senate and 413-9 in the House, and will now head to the President for signing.

The bill prohibits U.S. imports of crude, gas, coal, crude products, or any other energy products from Russia.

President Joe Biden already banned imports of Russian crude oil into the United States on March 8 via executive order. But there was a strong push to put it into law. Since that time, however, the Senate has haggled on the details of the bill.

A separate bill to suspend normal trade relations&mdash also known as &ldquo favored nation status&ldquo &mdash with Russia also passed in the Senate with a 100-0 vote, which will allow the President to assign higher tariffs on imports in an effort to weaken the Russian economy even more.

The ban includes not only Russian oil, but also coal and liquefied natural gas (LNG). The United States imports around 500,000 bpd of Russian crude and products. The ban could likely result in more self-sanctioning from others.

The actions from both the House and the Senate on Thursday represent the first time since the invasion that sanctions measures have been sent to Biden&rsquo s desk for approval. Up until today, the White House has relied on Presidential actions to punish Russia for its aggression toward Ukraine.

Also today, the UN voted to suspend Russia from the Human Rights Council.

In afternoon trade, crude oil prices were trading relatively flat on the day.

Yeh, expect to be temporary. WTI -5% and RH is -5% too. I think while brent is still above 100 price will be hovering around this range. I guess 280/285 would be the bottom for today. If later in the day brent moves up again, likely to see a recovery
