For those who had bought at ard 2.60 (I recall trading at ard 2.5+), n still holding till now, the nominal loss at a px of 0.28 wld be abt 40%+, disregarding the div over the yrs (now div is peanuts, but during the commodity super cycle when CPO was at a much more buoyant level it wld have been much higher, I can' t recall exactly how much though).  For those who had GAR ' free' , they wld have to revert to their Amcol share px to quanty any loss/gain.    But, going forward, my sense is GAR is likely to move up in tandem with CPO px in the medium term (say, within next 1-2 yrs).  GAR is dismal cos CPO px seems continuing to sink with no bottom in sight (as low as RM 1968 the last few days - one reason is that the competing substitute soya bean is also sh*t, no thanks, among other things, to Duckie n his antics, causing the PRC to scale down import of ang moh soya).  There is hope though .... in El Nino.  During the last EN abt 3 yrs ago, CPO reached abt RM 3100+, n GAR reached as high as close to 50c.  That' s why I' ve the next EN on my radar.  Hopefully, it cld hit sooner rather than later n be pretty severe too (but be prepared for burning weather) to push CPO to, say => RM 3600.  Then, GAR cld be even more buoyant than 50 or even 60c.  Then long suffering holders might want to take a serious look at exiting.     In the meantime, some who might want to ' pok' might want to consider averaging at current px levels if they consider save.  My personal view is current level is bottom oc near bottom already.  Dyodd as always though.

The way to reduce the loss is to buy double now and hold. But no more 0.27 and below. Ang the only way to get 0.275 is to buy 0.28 at closing time. If luck good can get 0.275.

With interest rates on downtrend (EU also joining the fund to let interest slide), the more likely scenario is chng kays are more likely to manoeuvre the three local bks' share px southwards.  It' gonna be a gradual process though, no cld take the form of a number of roller-coaster rides, creating trading opportunities to make $$$$ for astute traders.  Expectation is FED is not likely to lower rates yet, but 2H19 will see 1, or even 2, 25-basis pt cuts.

Think there were two share splits, bonus n rights issues that also diluted the px.  I have ard 2600 shares (not even sure now cos have not bothered for a long time) which initially were ard 500 shares given as dividend in specie by Asia Food N Properties (now Sinarmas Land) when it listed GAR.  They have ' grown' to ard 2600 due to the share splits n bonuses.  I didn' t take up the rights offer.
AhLiang ( Date: 19-Jun-2019 14:00) Posted:
I hope they didn't 'average-down' from $2. Like Indofood at 0.20/0.22, GAR at the present price is a buy.

The good old days for golden agri were ppl talking about how great golden agri is... and the price was above $2. This is one of the stocks are are very popular with the older generation for some reason.
Hope there comes a day when these shareholder can recoup their losses. Another good reminder, not to chase the hype train. |

I' ve read no small number of posts in the Hyflux thread where uncles n aunties are labelled ' greedy' for having bought Hyflux' s perpetuals.  Well, let' s just remind ourselves that we are all humans who wld naturally seek to park our funds in investments which we perceive offer the best returns n (hopefully) where our principles are in the safest hands.  Truth though is one can never say never ......

Fundamentally though, to me, having a proper extradition framework is a critical ingredient that spells out clarity n certainty.  It is so unfortunate that this has been almost completely lost in the skewed focus on the mistrust of what the PRC might exploit the proposed legislation for.

Hong Kong suspends controversial extradition bill after mass protests
Updated 0831 GMT (1631 HKT) June 15, 2019
Hong Kong (CNN)Hong Kong will suspend a  controversial China extradition bill, its leader said Saturday, in an apparent bid to quell further unrest and  mass demonstrations  throughout the semi-autonomous Chinese city.Speaking after consultations with lawmakers, Chief Executive Carrie Lam said passage of the bill would be suspended and a second reading due to take place this month canceled. There is no timeline for discussions around the bill to resume, Lam said, and she indicated it likely will not pass this year.
" We have made many attempts to narrow differences and eliminate doubts," Lam said. " In the last week, tens of thousands of people took part in protests and gatherings.  " In the last week, tens of thousands of people took part in protests and gatherings. Serious conflicts broke out ... resulting in a number of police officers, media workers and other members of the public being injured. I am saddened by this."
She added that in suspending the bill she hoped the government could " restore calmness" to society. Failure to do so would " deal another blow to the society," Lam said.
Addressing the media, Saturday, Lam blamed herself for failure to communicate effectively to the public. She said the original driving force of the bill was a murder case in Taiwan, in which the alleged perpetrator, a Hong Kong man, fled to the city. That case, Lam said, highlighted " loopholes" in the current law with regards to Greater China.
" As a responsible government we needed to find a solution to deal with this murder case (and) give justice to the family," Lam said.
While she said the " original purpose of the bill is correct in my mind," Lam added that " our communication has not been adequate."
" I feel deep sorrow and regret that the deficiencies in my work and other factors has stirred up deep dissatisfaction and controversies in society," Lam said, adding that she and her team would " adopt the most sincere and humble attitude" in future.
