Thai Beverage: Patience is a virtue

Thai Beverage PLC&rsquo s (ThaiBev) core 3Q18 results were within expectations, albeit on the lower end. Core PATMI dropped 10.3% YoY to THB 6.0b or 24% of our full-year estimate, while 9M18 core PATMI came up to 70% of our initial full-year forecast. Domestic spirits and beer volume dropped 11% and 9% YoY on the back of weaker economic growth affecting lower- and middle-class consumers. We remain wary on domestic economic weakness amongst middle- and low-income consumer groups, and lower our growth expectations for FY19. Nonetheless, we find valuations attractive with Thai Beverage trading at a FY19F P/E of ~15.0x as at 15 Aug&rsquo s close, or 1.4 standard deviations below its 5-year mean for forward P/E. For FY19, we look forward to ThaiBev&rsquo s recent gain in management control of Sabeco and expect the management to start implement efficiency improvements in the next six to twelve months, especially with regards to procurement of raw materials. Over the longer term, we believe ThaiBev&rsquo s recent expansions beyond its domestic market will continue to help drive growth. In particular, we see the Sabeco acquisition as a strategic entry to a growing market that will bear fruits in time. With a change in covering analyst, our fair value dips from S$0.95 to S$0.89. Maintain  BUY  with a fair value estimate of S$0.89.

OCBC Q2 loan growth to hit 10% as Indonesian and Chinese arms outperform
Banking fees are also expected to rise 13.8%.

OCBC is expected to book strong loan growth of 10% YoY and 2% QoQ in Q2 on the back of sustained business flow in trade finance and cross-border investments, according to UOB Kay Hian.

The bank?s net trading income is also forecast to grow from a dismal $94m in Q1 to $120m in Q2, said UOB analyst Jonathan Koh.

Also read: Here are two divestments that will lift OCBC's earnings in 2018

The bank?s wealth management segment is also expected to weather slumping stock markets as fees are expected to rise 20.9% YoY amidst steady expansion of assets under management.

?We also expect healthy growth from loans and trade related fees. Overall, we expect fees to increase 13.8% yoy,? Koh added.

Also read: OCBC profit up 29% to $1.11b in Q1

On a regional basis, OCBC?s operations in Indonesia and China performed strongly although it remains cautious in Malaysia. Bad loan ratios are expected to stabilise to 1.37% amidst a massive portfolio clean-up and provisionary measures taken in Q4 before the implementation of SFRS (I) 9.

?We expect cost-to-income ratio to be relatively unchanged at 43.5%, within the usual range of 40-45%. Staff cost is expected to increase 4.4% yoy along with the annual salary increment in 2Q18,? Koh added.

In terms of profitability, net interest margins (NIM) are expected to stay flat at 1.65% as the bank was hit by higher cost of fixed deposits in Singapore and stringent enforcement of single-digit lending rates in Indonesia.

HANOI, July 30 (Reuters) - Vietnam's largest brewer Sabeco reported on Monday second-quarter net profit of 1.29 trillion dong ($55.46 million), down 6.37 percent from a year earlier.
The company's total revenue in the April-June period rose 11.7 percent from previous year to 9.24 trillion dong, Sabeco, formally known as Saigon Beer Alcohol Beverage Corp, said.
Net profit in the first half of the year dropped 4.7 percent from a year-ago period to 2.45 trillion, the company said.
Earlier this month, the brewer said it expected a full-year net profit of 4 trillion dong, down 19 percent from previous year, dented by a rise in material prices and consumption tax.
Sabeco, which sells brands such as Saigon Beer and 333, is more than 50 percent owned by Thai Beverage PCL (ThaiBev).

Me also think 3 mio is huge . Nv saw such digits in my bank account lor. Think there are a lot of billionaires here. If me I?d rather spend some monies or earn less and leave it to those bank ppl doing investment one. Why bother to waste time and breath to argue with ppl here ?

Goldfinger      ( Date: 01-Jun-2018 22:30) Posted:

actually, 3mio is quite a lot of money in the stock market what....?  IF invest at dividend yield 5%, its like $150k of dividend per year - no need to suffer OT and long hours and abuse from younger colleagues as a work employee anymore right?

I don' t buy Chenghu arguement to have to work until 60+ years old to be productive.  Can kiao-kar and relax younger, is a better deal.  No?

TheDuellist      ( Date: 01-Jun-2018 19:23) Posted:

Wow, 3 mio ( to you) a lot of money, right? That is why you are telling everybody in a public forum. But what does that make you? Savvy? No, just boastful.. Somebody who may only have 3k in his holdings may possibly make more than you. During the ABL saga, those 3 mio holders today became 3k holders, so, don&rsquo t have to be so cocky.

Yah, you also mentioned female CEO like shite? LOL.... you must have hated. For whatever reasons, leave it to yourself.

btw, there are at least 2 others handling at least 10 mio portfolio in this forum DAILY and they knew better to keep mum. Must be laughing at you if they saw what you posted. LOL

That?s exactly what I think. Three telecoms just change their biz fr retails to whole sales. Just like SP source out their electric biz out. Unfortunately the price didn?t reflect this. Strange.

genting^2      ( Date: 01-Jun-2018 10:05) Posted:

When 5G comes, it will be a craze to buy new plans. So no issues at all. The current MVNO like Circles.Life contributes to M1 profits as they lease bandwidth from them.
Likewise Zero1, Zeromobile are contributing to Singtel
MyRep contribyutes to Starhub.

So it is back to square 1, Those talking abt telco wars are just trying to scare investors and shorting the counters.

So don' t worry.  Telcos won' t vanish.
